Technology is changing every part of hospitality, from what happens behind the scenes to the way guests experience a stay.

A big thank you to Louise Hibbert and Access Hospitality for sponsoring the Digital Innovation & Technology Professional of the Year and Revenue & Distribution Manager of the Year categories at the recent FEDHASA Hospitality Awards.

Through the work they do, they understand just how important innovation is to the future of our industry.

South Africa’s dams, rivers and waterways are important assets that support tourism, recreation and many livelihoods.

With this in mind, FEDHASA supports the Department of Water and Sanitation’s decision to revise the proposed Draft Regulations for the Management and Control of Government Waterworks and Surrounding State-Owned Land following extensive stakeholder input.

As FEDHASA National Chairperson Brett Tungay noted, this is an encouraging sign that meaningful public participation is being taken seriously.

We also appreciate the Department’s commitment to further consultation and look forward to continuing the conversation.

A big thank you to Brett Hendricks and the Motsamayi Tourism Group for coming back to the FEDHASA Hospitality Awards this year to sponsor the Leader of the Year Award.

This marks their second year with the awards, and their ongoing involvement plays a vital role in rewarding the people shaping our sector.

It’s through partnerships like this that we get to spotlight those who go the extra mile.

Verified, credible responsible tourism practices are now a baseline expectation for all tourism and hospitality businesses in South Africa.

Knowing this, FEDHASA has formalised a strategic partnership with Fair Trade Tourism – one of Africa’s leading responsible tourism certification bodies – to ensure South African hospitality businesses have the tools and support to meet that expectation head-on.

The MOU establishes a framework for joint education, capacity-building, and advocacy across the sector.

Africa’s Travel Indaba 2026 has come to a close, and it certainly was a landmark edition for FEDHASA.

Over three days, our team connected with members, international buyers, tourism decision-makers, and industry leaders from across the continent. We also announced our formal partnership with Fair Trade Tourism – formalising a commitment to responsible tourism certification and capacity-building for South African hospitality businesses – and we were reminded, once again, of what this industry is capable of when it moves together.

As FEDHASA KZN & Eastern Cape General Manager, Jaya Naidoo, told Cape Talk: “When public and private sectors work together with a shared vision, the results are definitely powerful, and Africa’s Travel Indaba is clear proof of this.”

South African hospitality is on the up, and FEDHASA will continue to ensure our members have every opportunity to keep it that way.
