Bonus Season – How Do You Decide on Employee Bonuses? December bonuses are on their way. The decision about HOW you handle them starts now.

If you're an employer, you've probably wondered:

❓ Do we do a flat bonus for everyone, or performance-based?
❓ Is it a "13th cheque" or a discretionary bonus, and does that distinction actually matter? (It does, for tax.)
❓ How does this affect PAYE for the month it's paid?
❓ Can we actually afford it, based on real numbers, not gut feel?

Bonus decisions feel like a "nice problem to have," until the payroll and tax side catches you off guard in December.

Sort the structure now. Enjoy the goodwill later, without the scramble.

📩 DM us if you're an employer trying to plan bonuses properly this year.

Payslips feel like paperwork. To SARS and your employees, they're a legal document with your name on it. 📄

Here's what proper payroll actually covers (and what happens when it's done wrong):

✅ Accurate salary processing, every single month, on time
✅ Payslips that meet the legal requirements, not just a Word doc with numbers
✅ EMP201 monthly submissions and EMP501 reconciliations, filed correctly
✅ Employee tax (PAYE, UIF, SDL) calculated and paid, not estimated

Get it wrong and it's not just an awkward conversation with your team, it's SARS penalties and interest with your name on those too.

Payroll isn't admin. It's compliance wearing an admin costume.

📩 DM us if payroll has been more "vibes" than "system" lately.

"So what do you actually do?" Great question. Here's the honest breakdown. 🧾

✅ Bookkeeping that doesn't involve a Woolworths black bag
✅ Provisional and annual tax filing (done properly, on time, every time)
✅ SARS correspondence, audits, and those scary letters you don't want to open alone
✅ Payroll and EMP201/EMP501 so your staff and SARS are both happy
✅ Business structuring advice (sole prop vs Pty Ltd - it matters more than you think)
✅ Real talk about your numbers, not just a spreadsheet you never open

We're not just here in July. We're the people you call in March when you have a weird SARS letter, in June when provisional tax creeps up, and in December when you're planning next year.

Year-round backup. Not just a tax season fling.

📩 DM us to find out what proper support actually looks like for your business.

Happy Heritage Day, South Africa. 🇿🇦

Here's a heritage moment for the business owners too.

Every business has an origin story. Yours started somewhere, maybe a spare room, a side hustle, or a "Let's just see if this works."

Here's the heritage every successful SA business shares, no matter the industry:

1️⃣ It started messier than the Instagram highlight reel shows
2️⃣ Someone eventually had to separate the business money from the braai money
3️⃣ SARS found out about it, one way or another
4️⃣ The ones still standing are the ones who got their numbers sorted early

Whatever heritage brought you here, let's make sure your books are solid enough to carry it forward.

📩 DM us. Every legacy needs a good accountant behind it.

Things that are NOT a financial plan...

1️⃣ "I'll sort my books when things calm down" (things never calm down)
2️⃣ Hoping the auto-assessment is close enough
3️⃣ A shoebox labelled "tax stuff, 2025"
4️⃣ Asking your cousin who "is good with numbers"
5️⃣ Praying load shedding ate the SARS notice before you saw it
6️⃣ Ignoring provisional tax because "it sounds optional" (it is not)

Honestly? None of these are a plan. They're a coping mechanism. And SARS doesn't accept coping mechanisms as a filing method.

📩 DM us and let's build you an actual plan before year-end catches up.

You've planted. You've grown. Now what? 🌱

If your turnover has crept past R1.5 million, congratulations, you've also crept into a whole new compliance category. Growth doesn't just mean bigger revenue, it means bigger obligations.

📅 Compulsory VAT registration kicks in at R1 million, so past R1.5m this isn't optional anymore (be honest, are you registered?)
📅 Your provisional tax calculations get more complicated the bigger those numbers get
📅 23 October individual filing deadline is closer than it looks
📅 SARS is watching turnover growth more closely than you think

Nobody warns you that growth comes with paperwork attached. The businesses that get caught out aren't the ones doing badly, they're the ones doing well and not realising the rules changed underneath them.

📩 DM us to be part of your growth journey.

Why is SARS suddenly interested in your holiday? 🧳✈️

From 1 July 2026, every single person entering or leaving South Africa needs to complete an online Traveller Declaration within 24 hours of their trip. Frequent flyer, family holiday, business trip, doesn't matter. Everyone declares separately.

Swipe through to see what's actually changing, why SARS is doing this now, and what happens if you skip it (spoiler: nobody wants customs delays at 5am with no coffee).

The 2025/2026 tax year ended 28 February 2026. We're already into the new one.

So here's the uncomfortable question: did you actually do what you needed to do, or did it quietly slip?

🗓️ 1st provisional payment (Aug 2025) - paid, or still "getting to it"?
🗓️ EMP501 interim reconciliation (Oct 2025) - submitted, if you employ staff?
🗓️ 2nd provisional payment (Feb 2026) - in, or missed?
🗓️ Books and records for the full year - reconciled, or a folder of "I'll sort it later"?

No judgement. But SARS doesn't do "later," and neither does interest on late payments.

If you're reading this and feeling a small knot in your stomach, that's your answer.

📩 DM us. We'll tell you exactly where you stand and fix what's outstanding before it becomes a bigger problem.

August is almost done. Which means Q4 is around the corner, and most business owners aren't ready. 📅

Here's your quick end-of-August financial health check:

✅ Do you know what you've earned vs spent this year so far?
✅ Are your invoices up to date and your debtors chased?
✅ Do you have a rough idea of your tax liability for the year?
✅ Is your bookkeeping current, or are you 3 months behind?
✅ Do you have a plan for the December slowdown?

Q4 (October to December) is when most small businesses either pull ahead or fall behind for the year. The ones who pull ahead? They started planning in August.

You've still got time to get ahead of it.

📩 DM us and let's do a quick financial check-in for your business. No obligation — just clarity.

You've heard the term. But what does management accounting actually mean for your business? 🤔

Here's the simple version:

📊 Financial accounting = looking backwards (what happened)
📈 Management accounting = looking forwards (what should happen next)

Management accounts give you:
✅ A monthly snapshot of your income vs expenses
✅ Clarity on which part of your business is actually profitable
✅ Data to make real decisions - not gut-feel guesses
✅ Something to show a bank or investor if you ever need funding

Businesses that review their management accounts monthly are significantly more likely to spot cash flow problems before they become crises. Most small businesses only look when it's already too late.

So, do you need it?

If you're turning over more than R500k a year or you have more than 3 employees, the answer is almost certainly yes.

Not sure? 📩 DM us and we'll give you an honest answer.
