Key Individual & Business Tax Changes
Tax Threshold Adjustments: The 2026 Budget introduced long-awaited increases to several thresholds to counter "bracket creep":
Tax-Free Savings: The annual limit increased from R36,000 to R46,000.
Capital Gains Tax (CGT): The annual exclusion for individuals increased from R40,000 to R50,000.
Primary Residence Exclusion: The exclusion on the disposal of a primary residence rose from R2 million to R3 million.
VAT Rate Maintained: The headline VAT rate remains at 15% after previous proposals for a phased increase were officially withdrawn.
"Sin Taxes" (Excise Duties):
Alcohol: Duties increased by 6.75%.
To***co & Va**ng: Duties increased by 4.75%.
Trust Compliance: SARS has issued final demands to trusts with outstanding 2024 and 2025 returns, signaling a zero-tolerance approach to trust non-compliance.
