Before accepting any new bookkeeping client, first offer a **free 4-hour review**.

Why?

Because you need to understand the full picture before you quote or commit:

✅ Is there a backlog?
✅ How many months are behind?
✅ Are the books messy or unstructured?
✅ Are bank accounts, receipts, and invoices complete?
✅ Is there a proper system in place?

A 12-month backlog with no structure is not a “quick update” job. It needs time, accuracy, and a clear plan.

The free review helps the client test your work — and it helps you understand what you are walking into.

**Know the scope first. Then accept with confidence.**

✔ How many months are behind?

✔ Are the bank statements, invoices, and receipts available?
✔ Is this monthly bookkeeping or a full catch-up project?

A smart step is to offer a 4-hour free review of the books before giving a timeline to complete the work.

This helps you understand the real condition of the books, and it helps the client understand the amount of work involved.

Because the truth is simple:

12 months of bookkeeping cannot be fully brought up to date in 2 days.

When books are behind, the work needs time, structure, and proper review.

Lesson: review first, then quote, then give a realistic deadline.

📊 A Productive Week in Remote Bookkeeping & Process Improvement

This week was focused on more than just bookkeeping—it was about creating systems that save time and improve accuracy.

✅ Organized and prepared tax documentation for multiple entities

✅ Built CSV files for QuickBooks Online imports from bank statements and receipts

✅ Developed duplicate-checking processes between invoices, receipts, and bank transactions

✅ Organized and categorized large volumes of financial documents and supporting records

✅ Assisted with property management bookkeeping workflows and expense tracking

✅ Improved Google Drive document organization and file management processes

✅ Created reporting templates and financial summaries for management review

✅ Continued expanding knowledge of AI tools and automation to streamline bookkeeping tasks

Every project presents new challenges, but creating order from large amounts of financial data is where strong bookkeeping adds real value.

Another productive week of learning and growth!

This week I focused on expanding my skills in property management and administration while supporting a US-based rental management team.

✅ Asana workflow management
✅ Google Drive & Google Sheets
✅ Adobe Acrobat document handling
✅ Property management administration
✅ Debtor and post-vacate expense reviews
✅ Process documentation and training

The highlight of my week was working on Debtor and Post-Vacate Expense Reviews. I enjoyed building a complete tenant review system in Google Sheets, linking supporting documents directly to expenses for faster review, and creating dropdown status options to identify items that are approved, pending review, or requiring team attention.

After 23 years in bookkeeping, I still enjoy learning new systems, improving processes, and finding better ways to support clients.

Looking forward to applying these new skills and continuing to grow.
