The 66th edition of Zimbabwe’s premier horse race, scheduled for May 9 at the Borrowdale Racecourse, has already generated significant excitement following Tuesday’s acceptance ceremony, where a maximum field was confirmed — a development widely viewed as a positive indicator for the revival of the sport.

This year’s race will not only showcase elite competition on the track but will also feature leading local artistes, with sungura ace Alick Macheso headlining the entertainment programme. He will be supported by popular performers Progress Chipfumo, Jah Master, Nisha Ts, Uncle Epaton, Madedido, and Ndunge Yut, among others, ensuring a vibrant atmosphere throughout the day.

A residents’ organisation has raised alarm over continued overcharging of parking fees by some local authorities, calling for urgent action to protect motorists and small businesses.

The Zimbabwe National Organisation of Associations and Residents Trust (ZNOART) says failure by councils to comply with Statutory Instrument 41 of 2026 is worsening the cost of living and contributing to disorder in towns and cities.

The law sets parking fees at a maximum of US$0.50 per hour and clamping fees at US$20, in a move meant to make urban centres more affordable and easier to navigate.

More than 150 people benefited from the initiative, which saw the distribution of clothing donated by residents, along with packs of rice provided by a local business. The event, which coincided with Cllr Kadzombe’s birthday, turned into a meaningful day of giving, sharing and community bonding.
