Which of the Following is Adjusted for Inflation?

1. Nominal GDP
2. Nominal income
3. Real GDP

Select the correct option(s).

The correct answer is: Nominal GDP and Nominal income.

Inflation is adjusted in:

1. Nominal GDP: To calculate Real GDP, nominal GDP is adjusted for inflation using a price index, such as the GDP deflator or the Consumer Price Index (CPI).
2. Nominal income: Nominal income is adjusted for inflation to calculate Real income, which reflects the purchasing power of the income.

Real GDP, on the other hand, is already adjusted for inflation, so it does not require further adjustment.

Zimbabwe introduced a new currency, the Zimbabwean Gold (ZiG), earlier this year. To date, the currency has been performing well against the US dollar. This is largely due to its gold backing, as Zimbabwe is rich in mineral gold. Initially, the exchange rate was US$1: 13.5 ZiG, which was equivalent to the price of gold per ounce at the time. Although it has since depreciated to US$1: 24.65 ZiG, the rate remains relatively stable. Notably, this is a significant improvement from the previous currency, the Bond notes and RTGS, which had devalued to over 30,000 RTGS per US$1 in its final days.
