WF Thoughts Today!
The 3rd & 4th Laws of Gold. By the richest man in Babylon.
The radiance of Wisdom never ceases.. all good things together came to me with her, and countless riches at her hands (Wis 7:10+).
And so, Arkad tells the story of his son, Nomasir, who would inherit the vast empire of his riches in Babylon. But first he must pass the test. Only then can he be its legitimate heir. His son must understand that without wisdom, gold is quickly lost.. but secured in his possession, by those who keep wisdom in their company!
So it was that he sent his son on a ten-year quest. For his journey, he gave him a bag of gold. And a clay tablet with inscriptions of wisdom. Ten years passed, and Nomasir was back to his father - to tell his story!
The Third Law. Gold clingeth to the protection of the cautious owner who invests it under the advice of men wise in its handling.
Now, Nomasir appears before his father, his face downcast and humbled because he lost all the gold in his bag. 'Forgive me father', he continues, 'the gold you gave me for my journey, was all gone. In the caravan I joined to Nineveh, was two well-spoken men with a beautiful white horse. They contended that a man in the city we are going has a horse so swift it has never been beaten. Compared with their white horse, that would be a match like a 'turtle to a hare'. So it was that I lost the gold, and from a few more times of youthful inexperience in trade and investment. And the father smiled indulgently.
The Fourth law. Gold slippeth away from the man who invests it in businesses or purposes with which he is not familiar, or which are not approved by those skilled in its keep.
Wounded from losing his gold.. still, he remained undaunted out of his desire for the inheritance. That he has more to lose from his father if he goes home beaten. He qu**ky recovers. Took out the clay tablet inside another bag he kept, already gathering dusts of sand from his desert journeys. There it was - his lessons for wisdom!
And the time finally came that he would give the full account to his father of his journey of wisdom. Father, Nomasir continued.. 'I remember the confidence you had in me in my journey. Losing all my gold, I quickly ran to the employ of a wealthy man in Nineveh. I earned my few coppers and put aside that which was mine to keep. Seeing me now in my thrift, I earned the trust of my slave master. He confided that the King of Nineveh was going to build a wall to protect the city from its enemies. And the king would need metal to reinforce the strength of the wall. The slave master took me in his group that would sell the king for the metals he would need.'
From all the confidence of experience in ten years of his travel.. Nomasir's face suddenly brightened. He motioned to his servant to bring out the one bag and place it in front of his father. 'You gave me a bag of gold, and I lost it. Here is one to replace that which I lost. And two more bags of gold out of the wisdom from the clay tablet you provided.'
'Father, I have been able to become rich and since then respected by the people.' And his father, Arkad, devotedly puts his hand on the head of his son. And smiled!
