After a beautiful weekend at Tasting Australia, this felt like the perfect Monday evening reminder.

At Yalumba, we watched the craft behind the barrel. Patience, skill, structure and care.

It made me think about family businesses, farming families, succession planning and the work that happens quietly behind the scenes.

Whether it is wine, agriculture, finance or family, the best results are rarely built overnight.

A beautiful South Australian experience, and a lovely reminder to start the week with purpose

A beautiful reminder that sometimes the best thing you can do is stop, relax, and take the day in.

David and I had the most relaxing day at Yalumba Winery for Tasting Australia, surrounded by beautiful wine, wonderful people, and the kind of South Australian setting that makes you remember how lucky we are to live here.

A big shout out to Yalumba Winery and 6HEAD for such a beautiful experience. The food, the wine, the setting, and the atmosphere were all exceptional.

What made it even more special was the South Australian connection. The menu featured Mayura Station Wagyu from the Limestone Coast near Millicent, which was such a proud reminder of the quality, care and hard work that comes from our regional producers.

We also loved spending quality time with David’s brother and sister-in-law. Good food, good wine, great company, and a little reminder from David that taking time out is not wasted time. It is often exactly what we need.

As a business that works closely with farming families, small business owners and regional South Australians, days like this mean a lot. Behind every beautiful product is a family, a farm, a business, a strategy, and years of work that most people never see.

Tasting Australia was fantastic, and we would highly recommend putting it on the list for next year.

South Australia, you really do know how to put on a day.

The CGT Trap

Capital gains tax is not just something that happens when you sell an investment property.

It can affect people who sell shares, land, business assets, investment properties, inherited assets, long held family assets, or assets sitting inside a broader family structure.

Post the 2026 Federal Budget, capital gains tax needs to be part of a bigger conversation.

From 1 July 2027, the Government has announced that the current 50 per cent capital gains tax discount will be replaced with an inflation based discount, with a minimum 30 per cent tax on gains. The changes are intended to apply to gains arising after 1 July 2027.

That means the question is no longer just:

“What is this asset worth?”

It is also:

“What happens if we sell it?”
“What is the tax position?”
“What structure owns it?”
“What does this mean for retirement, succession, estate planning, or the next generation?”

This is where advice matters.
