Meet Paula 👋

If you’ve called Focus or walked through our doors, there’s a good chance Paula has been one of the first people you’ve spoken to.

And that first conversation matters.

Paula is the person making sure you know what’s happening, your questions find their way to the right person and the little details don’t get lost along the way.

She’s warm, genuinely caring and very good at remembering the things that matter - and if she doesn’t have the answer, she’ll make sure she finds someone who does.

Having called the Albury region home for more than 30 years, Paula is also very much part of the local community. Outside Focus, you’ll find her involved with local footy and cricket clubs or making the most of time at Lake Hume.

Most business problems don't appear overnight. You can usually see them coming in the numbers first.

Margins start tightening. Wages creep up faster than revenue. Cash gets harder to hold onto. A growing business becomes increasingly dependent on the owner. None of these things necessarily feel like a crisis on their own, which is exactly why they're easy to leave alone.

This is where Business Advisory becomes useful.

Rather than waiting for the end of the year to explain what happened, we use the numbers throughout the year to understand what’s changing, why it’s changing and what might need attention next.

Sometimes that means working on cashflow or profitability. Sometimes it’s planning for another hire, managing growth or figuring out how to get more of the business off the owner’s shoulders.

A business can be bringing in more revenue than ever while margins are getting tighter, cash is disappearing faster and the owner is working harder just to keep everything moving.

That’s why revenue on its own is a pretty poor measure of business health.

Look at what’s happening underneath it. Is profit growing at the same rate as sales? Is there enough cash to comfortably cover upcoming commitments? Is growth creating capacity in the business, or simply creating more work? And how much still depends on you to keep things moving?

The healthiest businesses aren’t necessarily the biggest. They’re the ones where the owner has enough visibility to spot pressure early, understand what’s driving it and make a decision while there’s still time to do something about it.
