Moving into Aged Care? Here’s what you need to know about the 28-day decision.
Moving into residential aged care is a big step, and one of the most important financial choices you’ll make is how to pay for your room. You have 28 days from move-in to decide between:
✓ Refundable Accommodation Deposit (RAD) – A lump sum that’s refunded when you leave.
✓ Daily Accommodation Payment (DAP) – A daily fee based on government-set interest rates.
✓ A mix of both – Flexibility to suit your finances.
From 1 July 2025, you won’t have to decide within 28 days—the default will be daily payments, with the option to switch later.
