*THE CHEMISTRY OF CLEAN*

What actually goes into professionally cleaning the exterior of a property?
It’s a lot more than water and a pressure washer.

This Thursday, James Brickell from Silky Oak Property Services will be sharing The Chemistry of Clean, looking at why understanding chemicals is such an important part of getting exterior cleaning right.

Different surfaces, stains and contaminants require different products, concentrations and cleaning methods. Get that combination wrong and the result can be anything from a poor clean to damaged paintwork, marked surfaces, affected pets and plants or costly permanent damage.
James will give us a look behind the scenes at what he needs to know before the cleaning even starts, and why knowing what to use, how much to use and where to use it makes such a difference.

If you’re a property manager, real estate agent, body corporate professional, builder or trade, this is a great opportunity to learn more about exterior cleaning and meet someone you can confidently refer when your clients need it done properly.

This is why we’re looking for more businesses to join our network. Let’s add even more value to each other.

If you’re interested in finding out more or visiting, please message the page or email [email protected].

Client retention starts with quality service, but it grows when you continue adding value.

By connecting clients with reliable professionals who can meet their other needs, you become more than a service provider. You become a valuable resource they return to and recommend to others.

Add value. Strengthen relationships. Keep the cycle going.

Networking is easy, right?

Turn up. Shake a few hands. Swap some business cards. Maybe pick up a referral.

Except good networking doesn’t really work like that.

The kind that actually grows your business takes time and effort. You need to keep showing up. You need to learn about other people’s businesses, understand who they can genuinely help and give them the chance to understand yours.

Then something changes.

The people around the table stop being a room full of business contacts and start becoming people you know, like and trust. People you’re comfortable putting in front of your clients, friends and family.

That’s when the quality referrals come.

It’s not necessarily the easiest way to network. Relationships take time.

But when you’re doing it with a genuinely great bunch of people, they make it a whole lot easier.

That’s what we think BNI Gateway gets right.

Good people. Strong relationships. Plenty of laughs along the way. And a growing network of businesses we can confidently recommend. 💙 Be committed to the people who are committed to you.

Quality Referrals Don't Happen Overnight

They come from trust, consistency, and meaningful relationships built over time.

The more effort you invest in helping others and strengthening your network, the more likely you are to receive valuable referrals in return. Patience and persistence are key.

Who actually wants to pay MORE tax? 🙋‍♀️

Probably not the opening you’d expect from an accountant.

But Martin from Table Consulting gave us a very different way of looking at business success during his feature presentation at BNI Gateway this morning.

After working with a diverse range of businesses over the years, Martin has seen the same patterns emerge. He’s seen what works, what doesn’t, and what can happen when business owners are prepared to learn, take advice and keep making better decisions.

One of his examples compared a business in 2017 with that same business in 2026.

More revenue. More profit. More assets. More wealth being created.

And yes… a LOT more tax. 😄

It was a great reminder that paying more tax isn’t necessarily something to fear. If you’re building a more successful and profitable business, your tax bill is probably going to grow with it. The important part is having good advice around you so you can make the right decisions and pay the appropriate amount along the way.

Which brought Martin back to his version of TLC: Tax, Love and Courage.

The Love is the people around you. Family, your team, clients, suppliers, advisers and the business relationships that support you through the journey.

The Courage is resilience. Being prepared to test, learn, get things wrong, adjust and keep going.

And running through all of it was trust.

Martin even put a trust equation on the screen, but you probably don’t need an equation to understand why that one resonated in a BNI room.

Business is a lot easier when you have good people around you.

People whose experience you can learn from. People you trust enough to ask for advice. People who will introduce you to someone who can help. And people who understand that building a successful business rarely happens in a straight line.

Referrals might be what BNI is best known for, but mornings like this are a good reminder that the relationships behind those referrals are worth a lot too.

And that really summed up another great morning at BNI Gateway.

More people in the room means more connections, more knowledge, more businesses we can confidently refer to, and more opportunities to help each other.

Thanks Martin for a thought provoking presentation and for somehow managing to make paying more tax sound like something worth celebrating. 😂

And thanks to everyone who joined us this morning. Another great Thursday at Gateway.

Think about the last time a BNI Member asked you:

“How can I help you?”

What happened next?

A referral?

An introduction?

A new client?

A solution to a problem you couldn’t solve alone?

so…. How can we help you?

📊 FEATURE PRESENTATION | Martin McDonald - Table Consulting
Small business owners need more TLC.

And yes, Martin from Table Consulting really does mean more Tax, Love & Courage. 😄

Before anyone starts channelling their inner Kerry Packer and preparing for a showdown with the tax office, there’s a bigger point to this one.
For many business owners, paying as little tax as possible can become a goal in itself. But what if the better goal was to build a successful, profitable business, make good decisions along the way and have the right people around you to make sure you’re paying an appropriate level of tax?

That’s where the rest of Martin’s TLC comes in.
The Love for what you’re building and the Courage to make the decisions that move it forward.

This week, Martin will be taking the floor at BNI Gateway to talk about shifting the focus away from what you can’t control and putting that energy into the decisions you can make to create a successful and fulfilling business journey.

If you’re a small business owner, or you know someone who could use a different perspective on tax, numbers and running a successful business, come along and meet Martin.Message the page or call Martin directly to register your visit.

You might even leave thinking a little more tax isn’t such a bad thing after all. 😉

A pretty great way to spend a Sunday! 🥾❤️

Yesterday, BNI members, families and friends came together for a charity hike supporting two fantastic organisations within our wider BNI network, The Mini Farm Project and Westside Community Care .

And together, an amazing $2,195.28 was raised! 👏

It may have been called a hike, but there was a lot more to the day than walking! With Body Bingo, a scavenger hunt and plenty of laughs and getting to know other members along the way, it was really just a great excuse to get everyone together for two very worthy causes.

What made the day particularly special was seeing so many BNI members and their families getting behind it. We spend plenty of time together in our chapter meetings, but days like this give us the chance to get to know each other outside the meeting room, meet members from across the wider BNI community and strengthen those relationships.

BNI's Givers Gain® philosophy is about much more than passing business between each other. Yesterday was a great example of what can happen when the network comes together to support people doing genuinely valuable work in our community.

A huge congratulations to everyone involved in organising the day, everyone who came along, donated, brought their families or supported the fundraiser.

$2,195.28 raised for two very worthy causes and a lot of fun had along the way. Not a bad Sunday at all! ❤️

Some people collect stamps. Some collect coins. James from Silky Oak Property Services collects watches.
Which is slightly surprising when you discover he spent years not wearing one after getting his arm stuck somewhere after his watch band was holding it there.
Thankfully, that hasn't stopped the collection. And if you know James, you’ll know there’s probably a story behind it!

James is our Exterior Cleaning/Pressure Washing specialist at BNI Gateway and the man behind Silky Oak Property Services.
And while it might be tempting to think exterior cleaning is simply a matter of pointing a pressure cleaner at something dirty, James will very quickly tell you otherwise.
Different surfaces need different methods. From soft washing homes and cleaning windows through to roofs, gutters, driveways, concrete and graffiti removal, James is particular about choosing the right method and products for the job. He also puts a lot of thought into using products that are safe for the environment and, most importantly, getting the job done properly the first time.

A great connection for James is a property manager or real estate agent.
They're regularly dealing with properties that need exterior cleaning, whether that's preparing a home for sale, helping an owner maintain their investment or getting a property looking its best for new tenants. Having someone reliable they can confidently recommend makes life easier for them and their clients.

For James, one of the best parts of being at BNI Gateway is pretty simple: the great bunch of people. James recently passed a referral to our electrician Dan at DRE Power which resulted in a great air con install job for Dan. And that's a big part of what Gateway is about. Getting to know the people behind the businesses, understanding how they work and building enough trust that when someone says, “Do you know somebody who can help with this?”, you know exactly who to call.

For exterior cleaning, we know a guy. James from Silky Oak Property Services. Got a house, driveway or outdoor area looking a little worse for wear after winter? Get James onto it and have the place looking fresh again for spring. Ph: 0421 274 559.

No referrals coming your way?

It might be time to check your connection. 😉

Referrals rarely come from simply telling people what you do. They come from relationships. From staying connected, getting to know other businesses, understanding who they’re looking for and making an effort to help them too.

That’s a big part of what happens at BNI Gateway every week.

We’re building a network of people we know and trust, so when someone says, “Do you know someone who can help with…?” there’s a good chance the answer is yes.

And the bigger and stronger that network becomes, the more opportunities there are for everyone.

We’re always keen to meet more great local business owners and professionals, because more connections means more businesses we can confidently refer to.

Maybe it’s time to reconnect. 🔄

Running a business can be a pretty solo gig.

Even when things are going well, there’s still a lot sitting on one person’s shoulders. Decisions to make, problems to solve, clients to look after and a never-ending list of things that need doing.

But being 'in business for yourself' doesn’t have to mean being 'in business by yourself.'

That’s one of the things we really value about BNI Gateway. Over time, the people around the table become much more than a group you see on a Thursday morning. They become the people you can ask a question when you’re stuck. The people who know someone who can help. The people who understand what it’s like to run a business because they’re doing it too.

And importantly, they become people who know your business well enough to recognise an opportunity for you when you’re not even in the room.
That’s where the referrals come from. Not from handing someone a business card and hoping they remember you, but from building genuine relationships with people who know you, trust you and are happy to put your name forward.

**You’re still building your own business. You just have a lot more people in your corner while you do it.**

And we want that network to keep growing. The more great businesses we get to know and trust, the more people we have to refer to when our clients, friends and contacts need someone. Because having a strong network doesn’t just help us generate business. It makes each of us a more valuable resource in our own business too.

So we’re always looking to meet good business owners who value relationships, look after their clients and are the kind of people we’d be happy to recommend. If that sounds like you — or someone you know — come and spend a Thursday morning with us at BNI Gateway.
We’d love to have another great business to add to our network.

Message the page or email [email protected] and we'll get you registered to attend or answer any questions you may have.
