When Should You Start Financial Planning?
The best time to start financial planning is now.

Many people wait until they're approaching retirement before seeking financial advice. While it's never too late to start, the earlier you begin, the greater the potential benefits.

By understanding your finances early and setting SMART goals (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-bound), you give yourself more time to save, invest, and grow your wealth.

Even small, consistent contributions such as investing $100 per month can grow significantly over time thanks to the power of compounding.

At PAC Financial, we help you build a personalised financial plan that fits your goals, whether you're just starting your career, growing your family, or planning for retirement. Every financial journey starts with a single step.

Why Extra Super Contributions Can Make a Difference Over Time
Making extra contributions to your super may seem like a small step today, but over time, it can have a significant impact on your retirement savings.

📈 Benefit from the power of compounding
Regular contributions, whether through salary sacrifice or after-tax payments have more time to grow in a concessionally taxed environment. Even modest amounts can add up over 10, 20, or 30 years.

💰 Potential tax advantages
Concessional contributions are generally taxed at 15% within your super fund, which may be lower than your personal marginal tax rate. This can make contributing to super a tax-effective way to build wealth, particularly during your higher-income years.

🎯 Build better financial habits
Setting up automatic contributions helps make retirement savings part of your regular budget, rather than something you only think about at the end of the financial year.

🌱 Enjoy greater flexibility in retirement
A stronger super balance may give you more options later in life, whether that's retiring earlier, transitioning to part-time work, or preserving other investments for longer.

At PAC Financial, we can help you understand which contribution strategy is right for your goals and ensure you're making the most of your super.

Finfluencers vs Financial Planners: Who Should You Trust for Retirement?
If you've been spending time online lately, you've probably noticed just how much financial advice is out there. From short videos explaining how to "max out your super" to posts about retiring early or building passive income, financial influencers or "finfluencers" are everywhere.

For many Australians between 45 and 65, this can feel empowering. There's more information than ever before, and it's often presented in a way that's easy to understand and relatable. It can even raise an important question: if all this advice is readily available, do you really need to speak with a financial planner?

It's a fair question. But when it comes to something as significant as your retirement, the answer is rarely as simple as it might seem.

What a Financial Planner Brings That AI Cannot
AI can provide general information, but it can't replace personalised financial advice.

A financial planner doesn't just answer your questions, they ask the right ones. They take the time to understand your goals, lifestyle, and financial situation to uncover opportunities and identify risks you may not have considered.

For Australians approaching retirement, this could include:
- Optimising super contributions in a tax-effective way
- Managing investment risk as retirement approaches
- Understanding how financial decisions may affect your Age Pension eligibility
- Creating a strategy tailored to your long-term goals

Most importantly, a financial planner looks at the bigger picture. Your family, lifestyle, plans, and comfort with risk all influence the advice you receive.

At PAC Financial, we combine professional expertise with a personalised approach to help you make informed financial decisions with confidence. Because while technology can provide information, trusted advice is built on understanding you.

Capital Gains Tax Changes from 1 July 2027
Proposed changes to Capital Gains Tax (CGT) from 1 July 2027 could affect how investment assets are taxed.

What's changing?
Currently, eligible individuals, trusts, and partnerships may receive a 50% CGT discount on assets held for more than 12 months.

Under the proposed changes, this discount would be replaced with cost base indexation. This means the purchase price of an asset would be adjusted for inflation, and tax would apply only to the real gain above inflation, rather than the full increase in value.

The Government has also proposed a minimum 30% tax rate on net capital gains under the new system.

What stays the same?
✅ The main residence exemption for your family home is expected to remain.
✅ Small business CGT concessions are also expected to continue.

What could this mean for you?
If you own investment properties, shares, managed funds, or other investment assets, now is a good time to review your strategy.

While it doesn't necessarily mean you should sell before 1 July 2027, understanding the potential tax implications can help you make more informed decisions. Selling too early could result in unnecessary taxes, transaction costs, or a disruption to your long-term financial plan.

At PAC Financial, we can help you understand how these proposed changes may affect your investments and develop a strategy that aligns with your financial goals.

Self-Managed Super Fund vs Industry Super: What's Right for You?
As Australians take a more active role in retirement planning, many are comparing superannuation structures to determine which option best supports their long‑term retirement goals. One of the most common comparisons is Self‑Managed Super Fund vs Industry Super, a decision that can significantly influence investment flexibility, costs, and administrative responsibility.

While both structures aim to grow retirement savings, the right choice depends on personal circumstances, desired control, financial knowledge, and willingness to manage compliance obligations. Understanding how each option works is essential before making structural changes to your super.

Why Many People Delay Seeking Financial Advice
Despite the clear benefits of financial planning, many people still delay speaking with a financial planner. This often comes down to the belief that they need to have everything "figured out" first, or that they don't yet have enough wealth to justify professional advice.

With so much financial information available online, it's also easy to assume that you can build a solid strategy on your own over time by piecing together different sources.

However, having more information doesn't always lead to better decisions. In many cases, it can create confusion, mixed strategies, or even a false sense of confidence that may not align with your long-term goals.

Seeking professional advice earlier can help you make clearer, more informed decisions when they matter most, rather than trying to fix mistakes or adjust your strategy later down the track.

At PAC Financial, we help simplify complex financial decisions so you can better understand your options and feel more confident about your future. Our team works with you to create strategies that align with your goals, lifestyle, and long-term financial plans.

Getting guidance early can provide better structure, greater confidence, and a stronger foundation for your financial future.

Key Superannuation Changes Australians Should Know
While there were no major surprise superannuation reforms in this year's Budget, several important changes are already in place or on the way that may impact both employees and employers.

The Super Guarantee rate is now 12% following the final scheduled increase from 1 July 2025. This means employers are contributing more to employee super, helping boost long-term retirement savings.

From 1 July 2026, Payday Super will begin. Employers will be required to pay super contributions at the same time as wages, instead of quarterly. The ATO confirms super must be paid on payday from this date.

The proposed Division 296 tax also remains relevant for individuals with super balances above $3 million, potentially applying additional tax to earnings above this threshold.

What this may mean for you:
For employees, Payday Super means more regular super contributions going into your account. For employers, it's important to prepare payroll systems and cash flow ahead of the change. For SMSF trustees and high-balance members, Division 296 is something to monitor closely with professional advice.

Superannuation remains one of Australia's most powerful long-term wealth-building tools, and staying informed is key as rules continue to evolve.
