PayDay Super Starts 1st JULY 2026 ‼️

Big changes to super are on the way and from 1st July 2026 you will need to process your super at the same time that you post payruns.

Key points are:
• From 1st July 2026, super is considered late if the super fund hasn’t received it within 7 business days of payday
• To ensure super reaches the fund within 7 business days, process the super at the same time as the payrun
• If super is received late, the ATO will assess the Super Guarantee Charge (SGC)
• Interest will compound daily, and penalties will apply
• The Small Business Super Clearing House closes from 1 July 2026 therefore you will need to use alternative methods to pay super

What you should do now:
✅ Review your payroll and super processes
✅ Start paying your super at the same time as the payruns to get ready– you don’t have to wait until July 2026

📢 ATO Debt Recovery Update – What Businesses Should Know in 2026

As we move into 2026, the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) has reaffirmed its focus on recovering outstanding tax debts, which currently total around $50 billion nationwide.

The ATO has confirmed it is taking a more targeted and assertive approach to debt management, including:

- Increased winding-up actions

- Greater data sharing across industries and government departments

- Continued compliance blitzes and a crackdown on the “shadow economy”

On 7 January 2026, the ATO also advised it is actively using Departure Prohibition Orders (DPOs), with 21 orders issued so far this financial year, preventing individuals with significant tax debts from leaving Australia.

The message is clear: the ATO is showing no signs of slowing down when it comes to enforcing lodgement and payment obligations.

If you have outstanding tax debts, cash flow concerns, or are unsure where you stand with the ATO, now is the time to act.

🚨 False Chargeback Claims (aka “Friendly Fraud”) 🚨

Small businesses are increasingly being hit with false chargeback claims, where customers request unjustified transaction reversals through their banks — costing businesses time and money.

The Queensland Small Business Commissioner (QSBC) has identified this as a national issue and advises that if your dispute is denied, you should escalate the matter to the Australian Financial Complaints Authority (AFCA).

📄 AFCA has a helpful factsheet on chargebacks : https://www.afca.org.au/about-afca/publications/factsheet-chargebacks

If you’re affected, don’t ignore it — there are steps you can take to protect your business.

⚠️ Important Update from the ATO
From 1 July 2025, General Interest Charge (GIC) and Shortfall Interest Charge (SIC) will no longer be tax-deductible.
Currently, the rate is around 11% – remember, the ATO is not a bank and isn’t aiming to be competitive.
✅ If you have ATO debts, it may be worth considering external finance options to reduce costs.
✅ If you’re requesting a remission, make sure your application is detailed, matches the debt period, and includes evidence of circumstances beyond your control.
Stay informed and plan ahead to avoid unnecessary interest!
