But its history is surprisingly interesting.

It comes from Latin and roughly gives us the idea of “beyond the years”.

And, even better, one of its ancestors was apparently used to describe old cattle.

Yep. Old cows. 🐄

So next time you hear superannuation, think:

Special Disability Trusts used to be rare. Not anymore.

With more Australian families needing to plan for the long-term care of a loved one with disability, these trusts are becoming increasingly relevant.

A Special Disability Trust can allow money and assets to be set aside to help provide for an eligible person with severe disability throughout their lifetime, including their care and accommodation needs.

There are specific rules around who qualifies and how the trust can be used, but for the right family, it can be an important part of planning for the future.
