Why Do I Suddenly Owe Tax This Year? 🤔

Fuel Tax Credit rates changed from 3 August 2026.

If your business is eligible to claim Fuel Tax Credits, the new rates could affect how much you can claim on your next BAS.

📌 For eligible diesel and petrol acquired from 3 August, some of the new rates include:

🚜 All other eligible business uses: 53.7¢ per litre

🚛 Heavy vehicles over 4.5 tonnes travelling on public roads: 21.3¢ per litre

⚠️ Why does the date matter?

Because the rates changed on 3 August, your next BAS may include fuel purchased both before and after the rate change.

This means different Fuel Tax Credit rates may need to be applied depending on when the fuel was acquired. So, it’s important to make sure the correct rate is used when calculating your claim.
