We’re often asked what directors can claim through their company, and how fringe benefits tax (FBT) fits in.

If an expense is wholly for business purposes, the company can usually claim it without FBT issues. Where there’s a private benefit involved, FBT may apply and needs to be treated correctly.

There isn’t a one-size-fits-all answer. It comes down to how the expense is used, how it’s documented, and whether any private benefit has been properly identified.

If you’re unsure how something should be handled, it’s always worth checking before it’s processed.

Good numbers and useful numbers aren’t the same thing, and we see this come up a lot.

‼️ Good numbers are usually the ones that look clean in a report. They’re coded, reconciled, and lodged correctly. They help you meet your obligations and stay compliant. That matters, and it’s the foundation. But on their own, good numbers often stop at “here’s what happened.”

✅ Useful numbers are the ones that help you run the business. They tell you what’s changing, what’s working, and what needs attention. They help you decide what to do next.

Most business owners don’t need more data. They need the right numbers explained in a way that makes sense, with context around what to focus on.
That’s what we aim to do. Keep the reporting solid, then turn the information into something practical you can use in day-to-day decisions.

One thing we wish more clients knew earlier in the year is how much easier tax becomes when it’s planned for as you go, rather than dealt with all at once later.

We often see people lodge their return between October and February, only to be hit with the tax bill for that year and instalments for the next year at the same time. That’s usually when things start to feel tight and stressful.

What helps is having a rough idea of your profit each quarter and setting money aside as you earn it. It doesn’t need to be perfect. Even an estimate makes a difference.

Paying tax gradually through instalments and budgeting for it along the way is far less painful than trying to catch up later. It gives you more control and fewer surprises.

Small changes early in the year really do reduce stress later on.

February has a few important dates that are easy to miss if you’re back in the swing of things!

A quick check now can save a scramble later. If you’re unsure what applies to you, we’re happy to help clarify.

Running a business in Sydney comes with its own pressures.

In 2026, what business owners need isn’t more paperwork. It’s clarity, confidence and practical support that keeps things running smoothly behind the scenes.

Our role is to help you understand where your business stands, stay ahead of changes and avoid unnecessary stress throughout the year.
If this sounds familiar, we’re here to help.

From 1 July 2026, Payday Super will change how and when employers pay super.

Instead of paying quarterly, super will need to be paid at the same time as wages and received by employees’ funds within a short timeframe. While the super rate itself isn’t changing, the process, timing and reporting will.

For some businesses, this will be a simple adjustment. For others, it will affect payroll systems, internal processes and cash flow planning.
The key is not leaving it until the last minute. Reviewing your payroll setup, employee details and payment processes early will make the transition much smoother.

At Eclipse, we’re already across these changes and helping clients prepare in a way that suits their business. If you’d like to understand what Payday Super will mean for you, we’re here to help.

Tax and payroll rules don’t stand still. Rates change, reporting requirements shift and new obligations are introduced, often without much notice.

Our role isn’t just to prepare and lodge your returns. We stay across tax law changes, payroll updates and ATO requirements as they happen, and we look at how those changes apply to your specific situation.
That means helping you adjust systems, review processes and make informed decisions before issues arise, not after.

By staying ahead of these changes, we help our clients remain compliant and confident, without needing to monitor every update themselves.
It’s about clear advice, ongoing support and knowing your business is on the right track.

You don’t need to wait until June to think about tax.

Starting early gives you a clearer picture of where your business stands and takes pressure off later in the year. A simple review now can help you avoid surprises, manage cash flow better and make more confident decisions as the year unfolds.
This checklist is a good place to start. Making sure your records are up to date, reviewing last year’s return and checking key settings like GST, payroll and super can save a lot of time and stress down the track.
If you’re unsure whether everything is set up correctly, or you want help turning this into a clear plan for the year ahead, we’re here to help.

A little throwback to our Christmas party as we settle into the new year 🎄

Great food, plenty of laughs, the best beach view, and a nice moment to slow down before everything kicked off again. It was the perfect way to wrap up 2025 and start 2026 feeling refreshed and ready.

Here’s to another year working together. 💙

January can feel a bit flat for a lot of businesses. Clients are still away, payments take longer to land, and everything takes a moment to restart.
It’s normal. Nothing’s broken.
A quick check of invoices, keeping spending light, and planning cash flow beyond just this month can really help.
If January feels heavier than you expected, we’re happy to talk it through with you.

A lot of business owners start out doing everything because they have to. You build your business from the ground up, and every task just becomes part of what you do. But at some point, it starts to take a toll.

You’re across everything. Quoting, payroll, admin, staff rosters, client emails, supplier issues, and even chasing payments. It gets harder to step back and see the bigger picture. We see it often. You end up tired, behind on admin, and unsure what the numbers are actually saying. That’s usually when the stress hits.

You don’t need to do it all yourself. Having the right support in place doesn’t mean losing control, but getting back some breathing space

If you’ve been carrying too much this year, we can help you work out what to keep, what to delegate, and what can be automated. A few small changes can make your week feel a lot lighter.
