Every year I find myself saying the same thing...

"Where did that year go?"

Who hit that button already!?

The past 12 months have certainly been a big one for the MJA team. We've celebrated the arrival of two beautiful baby girls, we've welcomed new staff members Sharni and Emma to the team, embraced new systems and technologies, and had the privilege of working alongside so many incredible clients as they've continued to grow, adapt and achieve their goals.

The new financial year also brings with it a number of significant legislative and compliance changes. Proposed tax reforms, especially around CGT, superannuation changes, increased ATO compliance activity and new payroll obligations, there's certainly plenty happening.

We'll be taking the time to understand these changes properly, knowing that the most significant changes to CGT are coming into affect from July 2027 - watch this space! We'll be sharing updates, practical tips, blogs and guidance to help you stay informed and make the most of the opportunities ahead.

To all of our clients, thank you for trusting us with your businesses, your finances and your journey. We know it takes trust to hand over something so important, and we never take that responsibility for granted.

We promise we'll only mention this a couple of more times. If you still haven't gotten this sorted as an employer - Guess what!? Time's up!

Payday Super is right around the corner!

From 1 July 2026, your employer needs to pay super contributions at the same time they pay your salary or wages, so the contributions reach your nominated account within 7 business days.

There are some exceptions. For example, the first super contribution for a new employee will need to be made within 20 business days of their salary or wages being paid.

The Australian Tax Office is responsible for implementing the new rules and is the best source of info about the changes. Keep up to date on their website: https://www.ato.gov.au/businesses-and-organisations/super-for-employers/payday-super

💡 One of the biggest misconceptions we're hearing about Payday Super...

"It's okay as long as I process the payment within 7 days."

Not necessarily.

Under the new rules, it's not enough for you to simply make the payment.

The funds generally need to be RECEIVED by your employee's super fund within the required timeframe.

That means employers need to consider:
⏰ Clearing house delays
⏰ Bank processing times
⏰ Weekends and public holidays

Waiting until the last minute to pay could leave you exposed.

🚨 PAYDAY SUPER STARTS 1 JULY 🚨

One of the biggest payroll changes in recent years is about to arrive.

Under the new Payday Super rules, employers will need to ensure superannuation contributions are received by employees' super funds much sooner than under the traditional quarterly payment system.

If your business employs staff, now is the time to:
✔ Review your payroll processes
✔ Understand your payment timeframes
✔ Check your software is ready
✔ Review your cashflow
