From 1 July 2026, eligible families can access up to 130 days (26 weeks) of Parental Leave Pay, increased from 120 days. This entitlement can be shared between eligible parents and is paid at the National Minimum Wage rate.

✅ Eligible carers of a child born or adopted from 1 July 2026 can receive up to 26 weeks of Parental Leave Pay to share as a family.
✅ Employees receiving Parental Leave Pay for children born or adopted from 1 July 2025 will receive a 12% superannuation contribution on their payment, paid directly to their super fund by the ATO from July 2026 onwards.
✅ Employer-funded parental leave may also be available through an employment contract, agreement, or workplace policy. Eligibility and payment conditions will depend on the relevant arrangement.
✅ Employers must continue to meet their usual record-keeping and payslip obligations for employees receiving Parental Leave Pay.
✅ In cases of stillbirth or the death of a child, employers generally cannot refuse or cancel employer-funded parental leave solely because of the stillbirth or death, subject to limited exceptions.

Important Payday Super Reminder for Employers!

With Payday Super commencing from 1 July 2026, employers should be aware of an important transition deadline.
The final quarterly super payment for the June 2026 quarter must be received by employees super funds by 28 July 2026.

If you miss the 28 July deadline:
- You must lodge a Super Guarantee Charge (SGC) Statement with the ATO and pay the SGC by 28 August 2026.
- Late payment offset is not available for the final June 2026 quarter.
- Any super contributions received by funds from 29 July 2026 onwards will be treated under the new Payday Super rules and will not reduce your June 2026 quarter SGC liability. This may result in additional costs and compliance obligations for employers.

Changes to sleepovers came into effect from 1 June 2026, impacting how shifts are rostered and paid across the Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services (SCHADS) Award.

These updates include changes to:
• Ordinary hours and extended shifts
• Rest breaks between shifts
• Shift allowances and penalty rates
