Business owners are often across the business numbers. But are your personal finances keeping up?

As EOFY approaches, many business owners are looking at revenue, expenses, tax and cash flow.

But it’s also worth asking:

Are you building wealth outside the business?
Is super part of your plan?
Is your cash flow supporting your personal goals?
Is the business still doing too much heavy lifting?
If you wanted to step back one day, what would need to happen?

EOFY is a useful time to look at the business and the life it’s meant to support.

The best reviews are not really about us. They’re about what financial advice can make possible.

More clarity. Less second-guessing. A better understanding of what your money is doing and why.
A plan that feels connected to your life, not sitting in a folder gathering dust.

Over the past week, clients have shared their experience working with Michael and Antipodean Advisory.

We love what they tell us;

-supported through retirement decisions.
-things feel more manageable and understandable.
-someone to talk to when the markets feel uncertain.
-by their side when decisions need to be made.

That is the work.

Financial advice is personal. People trust us with their goals, their concerns, their questions and sometimes the decisions they’ve been putting off for years.

To every client who has taken the time to share their experience, thank you.

It means a great deal.

30 June is just around the corner, which makes this a good time to check in on where you’re at.

If you’re thinking about tax, super or retirement savings, there are a few contribution options that may be worth reviewing before the financial year ends.

The three big ones are:

1. Personal tax-deductible contributions to super
You may be able to claim a tax deduction for personal contributions you make to super.

For the 2025–26 financial year, the concessional contributions cap is $30,000. This cap includes employer Super Guarantee contributions as well as any personal deductible contributions you choose to make.

2. Catch-up concessional contributions
You may also be eligible to use unused concessional contribution caps from previous financial years.

This may apply if:

your total super balance was under $500,000 on 30 June 2025
you have not used your full concessional contribution caps in the past five years

3. Non-concessional contributions
Non-concessional contributions are after-tax contributions to super. These are contributions where no tax deduction is claimed.

For the 2025–26 financial year:

Annual non-concessional cap: $120,000
Bring-forward rule: up to $360,000 over three years, subject to eligibility

You can check your available contribution information through:

MyGov > ATO > Super

As always, the real question is not just whether you can contribute. It’s whether it makes sense for your situation.

Before making decisions, it’s worth getting advice that takes into account your goals, cash flow, tax position and retirement plans.

The Federal Budget has now been released, and it will be analysed to the nth degree by many.

If you’re looking for a clear starting point, I’d suggest reading the official Budget papers and a trusted financial summary, such as the Australian Financial Review.

Once you’ve done that, the next question is:
👉🏻Does anything announced affect your own financial strategy?

Budget measures can touch tax, superannuation, investments, retirement planning, business planning and family wealth.

Some measures may not be law yet. Some may change. Some may take time to come into effect.

But if anything has raised questions for you, now may be a good time to seek advice.

The Budget provides the broad picture. Advice helps you understand what it means for you.

A lot of financial decisions are really trade-offs

Put more into the business or build more outside it?
Pay debt down faster or invest more?
Hold more cash or put it to work?
Enjoy spending now or lock more away for later?
Pay off my house or put money into super?

That’s why quick answers don’t always help much.

Most people aren't choosing between a good option and a bad one.

They’re choosing between two reasonable options and trying to work out what fits best.

That’s where advice can be useful.

I love modelling the scenarios so you can see the trade-offs clearly and weigh them up properly.

The best decision is the one that fits your life, your goals and your comfort level.

A lot of this comes back to clarity.

You don’t need to have everything sorted before getting advice.

A lot of people assume they need to have everything neatly lined up before they come and see a financial adviser.
Every document. Every answer.
A tidy summary of where everything sits.

But let's be real. Not everyone is that organised (which is totally fine btw). That's what we're good at.

So there's no need to worry about having everything perfectly organised - the most important thing is to stop putting it off.
And it starts with a chat where we get to know each other and understand what you want your money to do for you.

Referrals mean a lot in this business.

Not just because they help us grow, but because they’re built on trust.

When someone refers a family member, friend, colleague or client, they’re really saying, “I think you’ll be in good hands here.”

We never take that for granted. If there’s someone in your world who’s looking for advice and would benefit from a thoughtful conversation about their options, we’d be glad to help.

Meet your adviser - Michael Clapham

I’ve worked in financial markets since 1990.

Over the years, I’ve worked across banking, investments, risk, product development and portfolio strategy. Having that experience has shaped the way I think about advice.

I’ve always believed good advice is about more than knowledge, it's personal.

It counts on me getting to know you.

Your goals.
Your family.
Your business.
Your concerns.
Your next chapter.

My favourite thing is seeing that "aha moment' when the money side of things starts to make sense and there's visible relief in my client's faces.

The pressure eases a little.
The path ahead feels clearer.
And people feel more confident about what comes next.

I'm always on the road as my clients have the option to meet with me in person at time/place that's convenient or come to my office in Crows Nest.

I'm happy to share the new Antipodean Advisory website with you.

More than anything, I wanted it to feel like a better reflection of who I am, how I work and what potential clients need to know about working with me.

A lot of people come into this space feeling unsure. Sometimes overwhelmed.
Sometimes just not quite certain what the right next step is.

That’s understandable.

Money decisions can feel complex and easy to put in the too-hard basket.

Part of my role is to help make it simpler, show what's possible and understand what they want their money to do for them.

This new website brings together more of that thinking, along with the services I offer and the way I work with clients over time.

Would love to know what you think.
