Until now, many clients have chosen our Fee From Refund service. The ATO paid the refund to us, we deducted our fee, and then transferred the balance to you.

Going forward, the ATO will pay your entire refund directly into your bank account. My invoice will simply be payable within 7 days.

For most clients, that means you'll receive your refund before the invoice is even due.

It's simpler. There's no intermediary handling your refund, no additional processing time, and no waiting for us to forward your money.

Most importantly, it reflects how I prefer to do business. I trust my clients. You've trusted me with your tax affairs, and I'm happy to extend the same trust in return.

Simpler for you. Simpler for me. That's the whole idea.

Your tax is return too important to use a bot to generate.

And yes I drew this by hand. Not because perfect is the enemy of good. Because it obviously a human doing the drawing then taking a photo.

ChatGPT isn't a registered tax agent, isn't insured, and isn't liable when it makes things up. Neither is Claude/Gemini/etc. But I am.

Your accountant is allowed to retire.

And you're allowed to not be sold with the furniture.

When a practice changes hands, the client list goes with it — you, your file, your history, transferred to someone you've never met, under a brand you didn't choose. Perfectly legal. Entirely optional.

Rumours of my demise are a tiny bit exaggerated — and not at all by me.

But just as there is no spoon, there is no office. I don't let silly things like walls get in the way of looking after my peeps.

No office. No waiting room. No geography. Phone or video from wherever you're standing. I've opened more times across more days, and every one of them is exactly as far from you as your phone.

Ubiquitous, if ephemeral. Everywhere at once, until the appointment ends.

Tax Time 2026
All appointments this year are virtual only — phone or video. Turns out you don't need an office to do tax returns. You need an office to have interesting conversations with landlords.

A new financial year starts 1 July, and before the season kicks off I wanted to say something.

Thank you. To everyone who has trusted David King Accounting with their numbers this year — through a fair bit of change at my end — I'm grateful. The practice looks different now: no shopfront, fully phone and cloud-based, but the same person behind the numbers and the same number on the door (0413 738 171).

If I've been harder to reach than I'd have liked at points this year, I'm sorry for that. It's been a big one. I'm here for this season and the times are already filling.

Here's to a good FY27. Book a time and let's get yours sorted.
