OMG!! Scammers getting ballsy now!
A lady just rang me saying- "I am so sorry to bother you, I made a mistake and accidentally entered your phone number as my mobile number in my bank app and authentication app. My number is only 2 numbers different from yours. I need to change it and it's going to send you a security code. Can you please share that code with me?"
Not a chance love!!!

This is important please read!!!
MYGOV is a system everyone has to get use to using but many are not taking the importance of keeping your account secure serious enough. Unfortunately we have seen too many people come under scrutiny because their accounts have been hacked.
Most people have seen and can spot the fake emails and claims of fake refunds. This is different- they are accessing your accounts and creating false amendments without your knowledge until it's too late. You are not notified of this activity because they change your contact details briefly.
Please keep your MYGov details private- the account is for you and you alone, please ensure your level of security is at the strongest possible (basic is not good enough), please check your accounts on a regular basis and notify the ATO on 1800 467 033 of any unexpected changes or activities on your account. Never open links or reply to emails and sms's. You may have activated the sms service for these accounts but always log into your MYGOV account directly to check instead.
If you have ever received a notification that your details were stolen from a third party provider like private health or a phone company make sure to either use a new email address not connected to those accounts and/or change your passwords on a regular basis.
Tax fraud is real- scammers are stealing millions of dollars by using your returns to make false claims and receiving large refunds which leaves the client chasing their tail to prove it was not them and stopping your accounts from been able to complete your returns correctly because the ATO freeze your accounts.
The system is flawed but we have no choice but to use it.
You can help protect yourselves in the first place by making sure your MYGOV is up to date and using strong security measures to make it more difficult for hackers to access your accounts.
