The 2026 Federal Budget was announced last night with many changes, particularly around property, trusts and tax reforms that can affect intergenerational wealth planning.

Beyond the headlines, the broader shift is worth paying attention to. Australia appears to be moving toward a system that places greater emphasis on wages, productivity and housing supply, while gradually reducing some of the tax advantages historically tied to investment assets and wealth structures.

For many Australians, there may be no immediate action required. But it is a reminder of the importance of proactive advice, long-term planning, and regularly reviewing structures as legislation evolves.

Some of the key discussion points include:

• Changes to negative gearing and capital gains tax
• Proposed trust taxation reforms
• Ongoing cost-of-living tax relief for workers
• Housing and first-home buyer initiatives
• Small business and productivity incentives

Periods of change often create uncertainty, but they also reinforce the value of having a strategy designed to adapt over time rather than react emotionally to headlines.

The detail matters, but so does context.

Daniel was Esther’s and Perspective’s very first client.

This conversation is a reflection on trust, time, and how financial goals naturally evolve. A big thank you to Daniel and Sally for sharing their story so openly.

We’re still unpacking the energy and insights from Advice Live by Akumin in Auckland, what an event!

Esther brought Jesse along for his first industry conference, and it definitely set the bar high. Great conversations, fresh perspectives, and plenty we’re looking forward to bringing back into our work with clients. A standout across the event was the strength of peer-to-peer learning - open, honest, and genuinely collaborative.

Esther was invited to join the 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗪𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗳𝗲𝗿 panel, sharing ideas on how to create better outcomes for clients and their families. A big thank you to fellow panellists Ben Kemp and Emma Bant for their insights and collaborative spirit, and a special congratulations to Emma on a well-deserved Astrum Award.

Thanks to Robert Shiner, Gerard Evans, Matt Lawler and the wider Akumin Advisory for such a well-run and meaningful event, we’re already looking forward to next year!

Esther recently hosted an informative webinar with Haydn Marshall from Lend Perspective.

Over time, we have developed a strong working relationship with Haydn, so we invited him to share his insights on the lending landscape and what borrowers should understand right now.

Esther and Haydn had a great conversation covering current industry developments, common mistakes people make with their loans, and how a mortgage should fit into a broader financial strategy.

You can watch the full conversation on YouTube here.

After 11.5 years, we wish Kathryn all the best in her retirement!

We recently gathered for a farewell dinner to celebrate her as a valued and much-loved member of our team. We were fortunate to have her children join us, which felt especially meaningful. A reminder that milestones like this begin with one person, but the ripple effect touches everyone around them.

We wish Kathryn every happiness and many special family moments ahead!

Recently, Esther Althaus was interviewed by the Financial Review to discuss why women are increasingly at the centre of long-term wealth stewardship, and how families are responding by planning earlier, involving the next generation, and focusing on continuity rather than transactions.

As Australia enters one of its largest intergenerational wealth transfers, the conversation is changing.
