We don't know who needs to hear this, but that double shot macchiato in the morning isn't a work-related expense ☕

Most food and drink purchases are considered private in nature, so you can't claim them as a deduction.

While it might not be claimable, the caffeine's still worth the cost 😋

Upcoming ATO employer dates — save this so you’re always informed.

The ATO has released the key upcoming deadlines for employers, including STP, super and reporting obligations. These dates roll around quickly, so it’s worth keeping them handy.

Setup for success in 2026. Whether it's STP, PAYG withholding, super guarantee payments or FBT, it’s important for employers to stay on top of their obligations.

Heads up!

From 1 July 2026, how super is paid in Australia is changing.

Instead of paying super quarterly, employers will need to pay super at the same time as wages. It will also need to reach the employers super fund within 7 business days of payday.

A few key things to know:
- Super is no longer due quarterly - it must be paid with each payrun.
- Contributions must reach the super fund within 7 business days of payday.
- This applies whether you pay weekly, fortnightly, or monthly.

It's a significant shift from the current system and worth thinking about now so you're not caught off guard in July. Employers are being encouraged to review their payroll and super processes well before July 2026.

There's no need to stress! Early planning and tidy systems will make the transition straightforward.

Payday Super is Coming – Here’s What You Need to Know

From 1 July 2026, employers will need to pay super at the same time as wages, not quarterly. The government has introduced legislation for what’s being called “Payday Superannuation.”

That means:

Super must reach employees’ funds within 7 business days of payday

The Small Business Super Clearing House will be closing mid-2026

There’ll be new penalties and updated super guarantee rules for late payments

It’s not law just yet — but it’s coming fast, and payroll systems will need to handle these real-time payments.

My tip: Start checking that your payroll software can automate super with each pay run. It’ll save headaches later and keep you compliant when the changes kick in.

If you’re not sure where your business stands or what you’ll need to update, I can help you get prepared early.

Carer’s leave = sick leave = personal leave.

It’s used to take time off work to help you deal with personal illness, care for someone else who’s sick or injured, or family emergencies.

Under the National Employment Standards, this paid entitlement is based on your ordinary hours of work and is 10 days for full-time employees, and pro-rata for part-time employees.

Something to remember for upcoming rostering and payroll.

Something to remember for upcoming rostering and payroll.

This year Australia Day falls on a Sunday. All states and territories have declared Monday 27 January as a substitute public holiday, which means public holiday rules apply to Monday the 27th instead.

Permanent employees that normally work Mondays are entitled to the day off with pay. Anyone working on Monday should get the public holiday entitlements from their award or enterprise agreement.

You won't get public holiday entitlements for working on Sunday 26 January. Normal Sunday entitlements from your award or enterprise agreement will apply.

This is an important update from Fairwork Australia. The distinction between casual and full-time employment is crucial, especially with the recent changes to casual employment rules. If you’re an employer, it’s vital to ensure you’re classifying your employees correctly. If you’re unsure about how these changes might affect your business, reach out to us for guidance. We can help you navigate these updates and ensure you’re meeting the new requirements. Feel free to contact us for more information!

FACT: Causal and full-time are different employment types, you can’t be both.

The rules about casual employment have recently changed.

New employees with a firm advance commitment to ongoing work shouldn’t be engaged as casuals.

Important: The Small Business Super Clearing House (SBSCH) will be decommissioned, meaning all super payments will need to go through payroll software.
