If you've earned money overseas this year, it doesn't just stay overseas for tax purposes.

As an Australian resident for tax, foreign income - whether from a job, freelance work, or even a bank account abroad - needs to be declared in your return.

The silver lining: if you already paid tax on it in another country, you may be able to claim a foreign income tax offset. No double-dipping from the ATO!

Two things to keep in mind... Many countries have a different tax year end so make sure you're working with the right figures, and all foreign income needs to be converted to Australian dollars.

We are here to help you work through the details - talk to us at your next appointment.

Changes to fuel tax credits!!

The rate for petrol and diesel has changed for the April to June 2026 quarter - following a temporary reduction in fuel excise.

If you claim fuel tax credits, this is one to check before lodging your next BAS. Using the wrong rate could mean an incorrect claim, so it's worth taking a moment to make sure everything lines up.

Unsure what rate applies to your business or how to update your BAS? We're here to help - just reach out and we'll sort it out with you. 🙂

The Federal Budget is out. Here are some of the tax changes announced for Australians 👇

✂ Tax cuts are coming
The tax rate for income between $18,201 and $45,000 will reduce:
• From 16% to 15% from 1 July 2026
• Then down to 14% from 1 July 2027
That’s up to $536 in yearly tax savings for some taxpayers.

🧾 New $1,000 tax deduction
From 2026–27, many workers may be able to claim a $1,000 instant deduction for work-related expenses with less paperwork involved.

🏠 Negative gearing changes
From July 2027, negative gearing tax benefits will mainly apply to newly built properties.

📈 Capital gains tax changes
The current 50% CGT discount is expected to change from July 2027, which could affect property and share investors.

🚗 EV tax incentives changing
The government also announced changes to electric vehicle tax concessions, with more details still to come.

These changes may affect everyone differently, so it’s important to get advice based on your situation 💬

The Federal Budget drops on Tuesday... and there could be some big changes coming for Australian taxpayers.

Here are some of the things being discussed ahead of the announcement...

- A possible $1000 instant deduction for work related expenses (which could mean less receipt tracking for some people!!)
- Possible changes to the Capital Gains Tax discount - big news for investors!!
- Changes to the Electric Vehicle FBT - the tax break is changing.
- Potential new tax cuts for low and middle income earners for 1st July 2026.

We'll break all this down once the budget is officially announced next week.

Did you know the ATO can fine you for lodging your tax return late?!

Here’s how it works…

It’s called a Failure to Lodge (FTL) penalty, and it adds up faster than you’d think:

- $330 for every 28 days your return is overdue
- Up to a maximum of $1,650 for individuals and small businesses
- Medium and large businesses? The penalties are even higher

The good news? In many cases, the Australian Taxation Office generally issue reminders before applying penalties, but there is no guarantee about this. If you’ve been putting it off, it’s worth getting on top of it sooner rather than later.

And here’s something worth knowing: if you lodge through a registered tax agent, you may have some protection from penalties in certain situations - especially if delays are outside your control.

Big changes coming for employers... are you ready? If you employ staff, this is for you.

From 1 July 2026, Payday Super kicks in, and it’s one of the biggest shifts to super in years.

Here’s what’s changing:

🔹 Super will need to be paid at the same time as wages, rather than quarterly
🔹 Contributions will need to reach employees’ super funds within 7 business days of payday
🔹 Payroll and reporting processes may need updating
🔹 SuperStream upgrades are coming to support the new system
🔹 A new super guarantee charge (SGC) will apply for late or missed payments

The transition period is the time to get your processes sorted – payroll, software, cash flow, and timing will all need to align with the new rules.

Not sure where to start? That’s exactly what we’re here for. Get in touch and let’s make sure your business is ready before 1 July 2026.
