Our answer - Wait a couple of weeks!

While your employment income may be marked as tax ready, this does not always mean all of your information has been pre-filled yet.

If you have:

✅ Bank interest
✅ Shares or dividends
✅ Managed funds or investments
✅ Private health insurance

some of this information may not be available until later in July or even early August.

The ATO also generally does not start processing returns until after 14 July, so lodging too early can increase the risk of missing information, delays or needing to amend your return later.

Our recommendation? Unless your return is very simple, wait a few weeks and let the pre-fill information come through properly before lodging.

A little patience now can save a lot of headaches later.

With the new financial year here, now is the perfect time to check your payroll obligations are up to date.

Here’s a quick employer checklist:

✅ STP finalisation due by 14 July
✅ Super Guarantee is 12%
✅ Check employee wages, allowances and PAYG withholding
✅ Review your payroll systems and prepare for Payday Super changes

Starting the year with clean payroll records makes tax time much smoother and helps avoid surprises later.

The RBA has increased the cash rate by 0.25% to 4.35% which is the 3rd hike of 2026.
