Maria's biggest fear when she started wasn't the clients. It was the software.
Back then, MYOB was basically all there was, and she was terrified of sitting in front of a client and being asked something she couldn't answer. Her accounting knowledge was solid. It was the practical stuff, the tasks she'd barely been trained on, that kept her up at night.
Her solution? She carried the instruction manual everywhere.
Over time, she learned one of the most freeing things in business: it's completely fine to tell a client you'll come back to them with the answer. Nobody expects you to know everything on the spot.
She describes those early days as "fake it till you make it." Most people who've built something real will tell you the same story.
If you're sitting on the fence about going out on your own because you don't feel ready yet, you probably know more than you think.
