🎉 **WE DID IT!** 🎉

I’m incredibly excited and proud to share that my boutique accounting firm has been awarded the **Institute of Public Accountants’ “Practice of the Year” – Tasmania!** 🏆
This also means that our firm has been shortlisted for the IPA 2026 National Awards!

This recognition has been **28 years in the making** ( I started studying in 1998, and opened by business in 1999), and I’m feeling very grateful.

A huge thank you to my family, clients, friends and my mentors at Tax Agent Pathway for their ongoing support, encouragement and patience. I’m also grateful for the support and resources provided through my professional memberships with the IPA, IFPA, ICB and other industry organisations, which help me keep my knowledge current and my practice running smoothly.

And a very special thank you to everyone who endorsed my nomination and took the time to leave such beautiful reviews and feedback. Your words meant more to me than you probably realise. ❤️

The journey to get here certainly hasn’t always been easy. Over those 28 years there has been plenty of study, lots of hard work, and many years of juggling work and education around whatever life happened to throw our way — caring for family, battling cancer twice, and all the other challenges that come with life.

But through it all, I have genuinely loved what I do.

I find my work incredibly rewarding, and one of the things I value most is the relationships I’ve built with my clients, colleagues and suppliers along the way. For me, accounting has never been *just* about numbers — it’s about people, their businesses, their families and helping them along the way.

So, **thank you to everyone who has been part of this journey.** 💚

There’s still plenty of work sitting on my desk, so I’d better get back to it — just with a particularly big grin on my face today! 😁

Celebrating the fact that our business name and logo have been registered as a Trade Mark under the Trade Marks Act 1995!
I have been in business since 1999 and have rebranded a couple of times - I started out as Behrens Accounting Services from 1999 - 2015, then Channel Bookkeeping from 2015 - 2023, then rebranded to Channel Accounting & Taxation.
Last year another person registered a business using the same name as one of my previous trading names which annoyed me a lot. Even though I no longer trade under the old names, I still use some of the old email addresses linked to that name. I have worked hard for a couple of decades to build my business and want to protect my work and reputation.
So why register a Trademark?
Your business name and brand are among your most valuable assets. Registering a trademark in Australia is an important way to protect the goodwill, reputation, and recognition you have worked hard to establish. A registered trademark provides exclusive rights to your brand and helps prevent others from using similar names, logos, or branding that could confuse customers. It can also increase the value of your business, support future growth, and provide stronger legal remedies if your intellectual property is infringed. Investing in trademark protection today can help safeguard your business's identity and reputation for years to come.
It doesn't cost a lot to do, but the application and approval process take up to 6 months and once approved, generally helps to protect you for 10 years before you need to renew. Here is some information about protecting your IP:)
