Australia is changing the way super gets paid. 💰🇦🇺

From 1 July 2026, the Federal Government will require employers to pay Superannuation Guarantee (SG) at the same time as wages instead of quarterly. This reform, announced by the Australian Government and led by the Australian Treasury, is designed to strengthen retirement savings and reduce unpaid super.

What’s changing?
👉 Super will be paid on payday
👉 Contributions will hit super funds faster
👉 Stronger compliance and reporting requirements for employers

Why it matters
* Employees earn more from compounding returns over time
* Less risk of unpaid or underpaid super
* Greater transparency and accountability

✅ Steps employers should take before 1 July 2026
1️⃣ Review your payroll systemsConfirm your software can process and report super on each pay cycle (weekly, fortnightly, or monthly).
2️⃣ Speak with your payroll provider / bookkeeperUnderstand what updates or configuration changes are required to meet the new rules.
3️⃣ Assess cash flow impactsSuper will no longer be paid quarterly — plan for more frequent outflows and adjust forecasting accordingly.
4️⃣ Update employment contracts & policies (if needed)Ensure documentation reflects payday super processes.
5️⃣ Test your processes earlyRun parallel testing before the deadline to avoid compliance issues.
6️⃣ Educate your teamMake sure HR, payroll staff, and management understand the new obligations and reporting requirements.

This is one of the most significant super reforms in years — and preparation starts now.

If you’re an employer, now’s the time to get ahead of the change. If you’re an employee, keep an eye on your super account and make sure it’s being paid correctly.
