felt silly asking your accountant a “basic” question? please read this twice.
*you are not supposed to know this stuff. we are. that’s literally the job.*

you’re brilliant at what you do. that’s why your business is where it is. nobody builds something good by accident.

but accounting was never going to be your thing too. it doesn’t have to be.

the business owners who get the most out of their accountants are the ones who 👏 ask 👏 the 👏questions 👏

the “is this a dumb question” questions... the “I probably should know this by now” questions... the “what even is a franking credit” questions.

none of it’s dumb. all of it’s fair. and the answers are usually a lot more interesting than you’d think.

DM me MONEY and i’ll send you our guide on the three ways to pay yourself from your company, and when each one makes sense.

ok but the hiring bit.

from 1 July, a missing super form has 7 business days to resolve.

payday super starts 1 July 2026. super has to hit the fund within a week of payday, not the end of the quarter.

you’re probably across the cash flow implications.

this change for hiring is where you should look next.

none of it is complicated… most of it happens before someone even starts.

…but it’s the kind of thing that’s easy to leave loose when there’s no real consequence. payday super changes that.

you’ll want to fix this before 1 July rather than after.

comment SUPERDUPER and I’ll send through the process, the mistakes to avoid, and what to set up now.

high school maths didn’t mention EBITDA.

business language is usually something we google on the sly when we think we should already know it...

EBITDA is one word worth actually understanding though.

it stands for Earnings Before Interest, Taxes, Depreciation and Amortisation..basically, what your business earns from doing what it does, before the accounting layers get added on top.

(what is amortisation?? great question, glad you asked... same idea as depreciation, just for non-physical assets like software or goodwill.)

the reason this matters is that it gives you a clean way to look at performance...
are the decisions you’re making actually generating the profit you planned for?

it’s also the number banks lean on when they’re sizing up your borrowing power, and the number a buyer looks at if you ever sell.

higher EBITDA, higher valuation.

worth knowing, even if you never plan to sell.

want more info about your EBITDA & how to calculate it? comment EBITDA & I’ll DM you the stuff worth knowing.
