💼 The 2026–27 Federal Budget is here - and there's a lot to unpack!

Treasurer Jim Chalmers handed down the Budget on 12 May 2026, and it includes some big changes for everyday Australians, property investors, small businesses, and trust holders.

Here are some of the highlights:

🔹 A new $250/year tax offset for working Australians from July 2027
🔹 Claim up to $1,000 in work-related deductions - no receipts required
🔹 $150 energy rebate continues for households and small businesses
🔹 Negative gearing on investment properties restricted to new builds from July 2027 (existing properties are safe!)
🔹 Capital gains tax discount reduced for new investment property purchases after tonight
🔹 Small business instant asset write-off of $20,000 is now permanent
🔹 Discretionary trusts will face a 30% tax rate from July 2028

Checking your own credit report is a soft enquiry and won’t affect your credit score.

In Australia, you can access free reports from:
• Equifax
• Experian
• Illion

Look out for:
✔️ Accounts that aren’t yours
✔️ Late payments you didn’t realise were recorded
✔️ Defaults (which can stay on file for up to 5 years)

Even one default can:
• Reduce how much you can borrow
• Lead to higher interest rates
• Delay your finance approval

Tip: Check your credit 3 - 6 months before applying for a loan so you have time to fix any issues.

👋 Meet Shay Ridley - Client Services Coordinator

Originally from Papamoa, New Zealand, Shay grew up across the ditch before making the move to Melbourne, where she’s called Box Hill home for the past two years.

Shay has experience managing retail teams in pharmacy, teaching life skills in schools and workplaces, and has a strong background in administration, Shay brings a vast amount of people-focused experience to her role at KSR.

💬 What Shay loves most about being a Client Services Coordinator at KSR Partners:
“My favourite thing about working at KSR is the people I get to work with and how no day is the same - it keeps me on my toes and gives me lots of opportunities to learn!”

👋 Meet Theeban Ravendren - Accountant

Born in Singapore, raised in New Zealand, and now proudly calling Australia home since 2002 - Theeban’s journey has been a global one! 🌏

He started his first accounting role as an intern back in 2010 and hasn’t looked back since. For the past three years, Theeban has been a valued member of the KSR team, working closely with clients across a wide range of industries.

With extensive experience in individual tax returns, SMSFs, partnerships, companies, and trusts as well as management accounting for both not-for-profits and commercial organisations - Theeban brings a wealth of knowledge and a strong client-focused approach to everything he does.

⚽ Outside of work:
