FAQ: Do I need to lodge an Australian tax return? 🇦🇺👇
For most people, the answer is yes.
You must file a return with the ATO if you:
- Earned over the $18,200 tax-free threshold
- Had tax withheld from your pay (file to get your refund!)
- Earned income as a sole trader / ABN holder
- Made money from investments (dividends, crypto, or interest)
Not required to file? Don't just ignore it. You still need to submit a Non-Lodgement Advice form to the ATO to avoid automatic late penalties.
⏰ Deadline: File by October 31st (or later if you use a registered tax agent).
