🚨There have been a couple of important aged care changes recently. From 20 March 2026, key residential aged care fees increased, including the Basic Daily Fee to $66.80 per day, and the maximum Non-Clinical Care Contribution to $107.32 per day. The lifetime cap on the Non-Clinical Care Contribution has now increased to $137,917.01.

In addition, from 1 April 2026, the Maximum Permissible Interest Rate (MPIR) will increase to 7.96% (from 7.65%). This rate is used to calculate daily accommodation payments where a RAD is not paid in full, so it can have a real impact on ongoing aged care costs for new entrants and some accommodation calculations.

I could not agree more! The amount of conflicted information that families get when moving their loved ones into care is scary - most of the time by people that are not licensed financial planners, and especially not from accredited Aged Care advisers.

With the 1 November 2025 changes, it is especially important now to ensure that you seek advice from an (UP-TO-DATE) Accredited Aged Care adviser, to ensure you're receiving accurate and detailed information.

We support Aged Care Steps suggestions to have Aged Care included in the Corporations Act and overseen by ASIC, ensuring there is a minimum standard for Aged Care professionals to meet before they're able to provide personal financial advice. We also support the suggestion that the government should subsidize aged care related advice and build out education and awareness.

By updating the Adviser Register to include Accredited Aged Care advisers, people will be able to seek out with greater certainty, those who are experienced and able to help them with their Aged Care needs.

💹We always say, you shouldn't invest based on emotion, whether buying or selling! (this chart shows why!)

If you had sold down shares yesterday, with the market being down around 6% for the week, you would have missed a big rebound today, with the market up 4.65% for the day - one of the biggest single day gains in 5 years.

While we take a very cautious and calculated approach with our client investments, it is a valuable lesson in not panic buying or panic selling investments. The market volatility is far from over yet, however, by having a plan and only make minor changes where necessary, you can weather these sorts of storms - in some cases, having a positive net return, even in negative markets.

It was a great opportunity today, being able to present a bit more about what I do and why do it at BNI Northstar - Pimpama. I really enjoy helping families navigate the complexities of aged care and providing better financial outcomes and hopefully everyone was able to learn a bit more about how we can help!

Thanks to the team at BNI Northstar too for digging deep and donating to the chapters charity drive, with gifts going to Arcare Aged Care residents who may not have visitors or gifts this Christmas. A great cause.
