Card surcharge changes are coming on 1 October 2026

If your business accepts Visa, Mastercard, eftpos or American Express payments, you’ll no longer be able to add a card payment surcharge to those transactions from 1 October.

Now is a good time to contact your payment provider, check how surcharges are applied in your terminals and online checkout, and review any signs or pricing information customers see.

The current card surcharge rules still apply until 30 September 2026.

It’s TPAR Time – Not a Tea Party!

No, we are not inviting you to tea. We are talking about the Taxable Payments Annual Report (TPAR) – a requirement for certain industries.

If your business operates in any of the following sectors and you have paid subcontractors in FY24/25, you may need to lodge a TPAR:

Building and construction services

Cleaning services

Courier services

Road freight services

Information technology (IT) services

Security, investigation, or surveillance services

What you need to report:

The names and contact details of your subcontractors

How much you paid them during the financial year

Important: If you did not collect your subcontractor’s ABN, you should have withheld 48.5% from their payment.

Good News for Employers – PayDay Super Is Still Just a Proposal

PayDay Super has been proposed by the Government, but it is not yet law. The suggested start date of 1 July 2026 has not been legislated, so your current quarterly superannuation payment schedule remains unchanged for now.

However, there is one confirmed change:
The ATO’s Small Business Super Clearing House will close from 1 July 2026, with the March 2026 quarter being the final period it can be used.

This is a good opportunity for businesses to stay informed, plan ahead, and begin reviewing alternative systems.

New Financial Year - Minimum Wage and Superannuation Changes Now in Effect

As of 1 July 2025, there are two key changes all employers should be aware of:

1. Minimum Wage Increase

The new rates only apply to pay periods starting on or after 1 July 2025. If your pay cycle includes dates from June, you must continue to use the previous rates for the entire period.

2. Superannuation Guarantee Increase

Super has now increased from 11.5% to 12%. This applies to all payments made on or after 1 July, regardless of when the work was performed.

Be sure to:
-Check that your payroll is applying the correct wage and super rates
-Review your staff costings and budget projections
-Update any employment contracts if needed
-Stay ahead of your compliance obligations this financial year.
