This one really stuck with me.

This one really stuck with me.

This is the kind of post that makes every investor’s brain start misbehaving.

Because the math is wild.

You see a comparison like this and immediately think, “Well, maybe I should be taking bigger swings.” And honestly, that reaction is normal. Nobody likes looking at a chart and realizing a few days in one stock could beat years of slow-and-steady investing.

But this is also where people get themselves in trouble.

A great return after the fact is not the same thing as a wise decision before the fact.

That’s the part we forget.

Every big winner looks obvious once it already won. Every great company looks like a no-brainer after the market agrees with it. Every “you should have bought this” post is written with the benefit of hindsight.

But real investing does not happen with hindsight.

It happens with uncertainty.

You have bills, kids, retirement, college, emergencies, a mortgage, and a future version of yourself that would prefer you not gamble the whole farm because one exciting company had a monster run.

There is nothing wrong with taking some calculated swings.

There is nothing wrong with owning individual stocks.

There is nothing wrong with saying, “I believe in this company, and I’m willing to risk a small percentage of my portfolio on it.”

But there is a big difference between investing and chasing.

Investing has a plan.

Chasing has a screenshot.

And screenshots can make people do dumb things with real money.

The lesson here is not “ignore big opportunities.”

The lesson is to build your financial life in a way where you can participate in opportunities without needing every opportunity to save you.

That means boring things still matter.

Diversification matters.

Emergency funds matter.

Retirement contributions matter.

Not betting money you cannot afford to lose matters.

Because for every post like this, there are a thousand investments nobody shares because they went the other direction.

That’s the part social media conveniently leaves in the drawer.

Big upside is exciting.

Wisdom is knowing how much of your future you’re willing to put on the table to chase it.

It been a while but not much has changed in recent times. Things have calmed down and markets have been strong.

What is changing is our typical client. 10 Years ago when we started NOR we were dealing with your doctors who needed insurance as they had big mortgages and young families. Now many are fully qualified with older kids and starting to focus on building more significant wealth.

More and more we are discussing not only the fund to invest in but also the right entity to hold it in. Thought this blog might help.

Discover the pros and cons of trusts, companies, investment bonds and superannuation for doctors in Australia. Choose the right structure to grow wealth.

Making sure you have valid nominations set up is just one of the many important things we worry about for you. So you don’t have to.

At least 6.5 million Australians will have no say in who inherits their superannuation, according to new research from Super Consumers Australia. It is urging people to make sure they have a legally "binding" nomination to ensure their super goes to the people they want it to.

Remember the covid crash in 2020? You may have removed that from memory, for good reason. We didn't. This last 5 years has seen amazing returns. History repeating.

If you're panicking over your shares right now, that could potentially be the worst thing to do.

Just thought I'd put up this article talking about recession in 2022.

As the share market enters a technical correction the raw fear is that if uncontrollable inflation is at the root of this downturn, it's anyone's guess as to when the bulk of the selling will be over, writes David Taylor.

Not a lot of updates on the page these days. We’ve mostly been figuring new and exciting ways to help our clients build wealth and manage risk.
We are almost entirely pay per use now but still offer innovative solutions for those who benefit from other offerings. We have also developed methods to enable our clients by giving them access to leading edge portfolio management. Sure the risk return ratio is about the same but the visibility and access to great strategy. Oh my.

They do say comparison is the thief of joy but this is a question we get asked a lot. Figured this tool could be handy.

I’ve been considering writing this one for some time now. We are working closer than ever with industry funds. This is a great outcome for our clients as it opens up our options for pricing effective and efficient service.

This article aims to clarify how Superannuation funds utilize Index/ETF funds for cost-effective super investments. While super costs are decreasing significantly, it's important to question where the value lies for you as an investor.
