The Federal Budget was announced in May — but we're now mid-year with several measures already live or about to take effect. This is a practical, timeline-focused guide to what matters right now and what you should be planning for.

What's covered:

✓ Changes that are live now (income tax, work deductions, asset write-offs)
✓ Changes coming July 2027 (negative gearing, CGT, FBT)
✓ Changes further out (family trust distributions)
✓ Specific action items for employees, investors, and business owners
✓ Timing considerations for major decisions

The key takeaway: some of these announcements require action now. Others are worth planning for today even though they take effect next year.

Payday Super is officially here. From 1 July, super needs to be paid at the same time as wages - every pay run, not every quarter.

If your payroll's already sorted, you're good to go. If you're not quite sure you're set up the right way, there are two simple steps you should take: review what your payroll software supports, and reach out if you'd like us to talk it through with you.

It's important to get it right from the start to avoid future headaches.

If you lodge quarterly BAS yourself, June quarter is due 28th July.

It's important to note alternative dates depending on your situation:

∙ If you lodge monthly BAS – these are due 21st July.
∙ If you lodge your own quarterly BAS – these are due 28th July.
∙ If you use a tax agent to lodge your quarterly BAS – these are due the 26th August.

Whichever category your business falls into, getting organised early takes the pressure off and helps avoid last-minute surprises.

The truth: a budget isn't a prediction. It's a plan. And it's the only thing standing between you and a cash crisis.

Too many business owners manage in arrears — reacting to what's already happened instead of planning for what's coming.
