We’re seeing a rise in scam messages pretending to be the ATO, myGov, banks and other trusted organisations.

Here’s how to protect yourself:
✅ The ATO or myGov will never ask for personal details via text or email links
✅ From 1 July, texts from unknown senders may show as “Unverified”
✅ Don’t click links in unexpected messages
✅ If unsure, contact the organisation directly using official details

Your security is important to us—if you’re ever unsure, please reach out to our Sheridan Partners team on 1300 896 574 before taking action.

If something doesn’t feel right, trust your instincts and double check before taking action. Please see the links provided for further information.

New laws mean we’re required to verify our clients identities and we may ask for extra information about transactions.

These changes help prevent financial crime and keep Australia’s systems safe.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

With the rise in cost of living expenses many taxpayers hopeful of a refund will be looking to have their tax returns prepared and lodged early in July. This can result in critical information being omitted from tax returns as the prefill information available from the tax office may not include all income details.

Payment records may appear on your MyGov as unfinalised. At year end employers are required to submit an annual wage report and when lodged with tax office payment summaries are marked as Tax Ready and can then be included in your tax return.

The ATO is paying close attention to all work-related deduction claims, in particular those for working from home and motor vehicle expenses.

The ATO Three Golden Rules – to claim a work-related expense, you must have spent the money yourself, it must be directly related to earning your income, and you must have records to prove it.

Please refer to the link provided for work-related deductions.

The Australian Taxation Office (ATO) pays interest—known as Interest on Early Payments (IEP)— if you pay certain tax liabilities more than 14 days before the due date.

The ATO automatically calculates and pays this interest into your nominated bank account provided the interest amount is $0.50 or more.

The interest is paid after the original due date of your tax payable has passed. If you have a mygov account that is linked to the ATO online services you will receive a notification from them and you may have to update your bank details.
