The best SMSF reform we've seen in years?

This week we are celebrating legislation.

The decision to stop new SMSFs borrowing to buy residential property, may be one of the best retirement policy decisions we've seen in a long time.

New LRBAs (Limited Recourse Borrowing Arrangements) can no longer be used to acquire standard residential property.*

For years, Australians have been sold the dream that borrowing inside super is the pathway to wealth.

More often than not the idea has been led by those profiting from selling the property, lending the money and organising the rental agreements.

In reality?

We have seen far too many people end up with a huge percentage of their retirement savings tied up in a single property, carrying debt, suffering from cash flow constraints, worrying about maintenance and interest rates, all within a structure that was supposed to provide security in retirement.
