Thinking of using your super to buy property? The government just completely rewrote the rule book.

Here is the exact breakdown of the new June 2026 legislation:
❌ THE BAN: No more residential borrowing.
Self-Managed Super Funds (SMSFs) are now officially BANNED from taking out new loans to buy residential investment properties. (Reminder: You’ve never been allowed to live in an SMSF property personally, but now you can’t even borrow to buy a standard residential rental).

✅ THE OPPORTUNITY: Commercial property is safe!
You CAN still borrow through your SMSF to purchase commercial real estate. This remains an incredible wealth-creation strategy for business owners who want to buy their own office, warehouse, or retail space and lease it back to their own business.
