‘Ideas for a New North’ is an exciting new initiative by Australians for Northern Development and Economic Vision (ANDEV). Comprising all of the Northern Territory, northern Western Australia and northern Queensland, ‘Northern Australia’ is an area which makes up 50% of Australia’s land mass with only 5% of its population. Using a combination of lower taxes and less regulation, a special economic
zone in ‘Northern Australia’ would improve this under-developed part of Australia. From Hong Kong to Shenzen, special economic zones have fostered growth and economic well-being throughout history. Creating an area in Northern Australia with lower taxes, fewer regulations and less red tape would encourage investment and unlock the potential on Northern Australia. We encourage you to start thinking about what you think the implications and benefits of a Special Economic Zone in Northern Australia would look like.
