At the start of 2021, we asked our Genealogists Macbeth to look at an unclaimed estate in South Australia.
John William Bruce died in 2007. He had no immediate family and did not leave a will. His birth certificate had the name of his mother, but no father was listed. The South Australian Public Trustees could find no record of any family that could his inherit his estate and so the funds were transferred to the South Australian Treasury as unclaimed funds.
Macbeth were able to locate a notice in the South Australian Police Gazette of November,1938 that named the father of John William Bruce. They then created the family tree of that gentlemen and we set about trying to locate the extended family.
This week we have concluded this case, having distributed $811,000 across the 19 members of the extended family. It has been a long journey, but the beneficiaries will forever be grateful to Macbeth for their extraordinary work.
