Four days late paying super. The owner was sure it would be fine. It was not.

Since 1 July 2026, super has to reach your employees' funds every payday, not once a quarter. Miss the deadline and the penalties cost far more than the contribution itself.

If you are not sure your payroll is set up for Payday Super, we can help you check it.

Most sole traders do not change their business structure because things are going badly. They change it because something nearly went wrong.

A tradie on a big commercial job. A consultant whose profit has quietly climbed. A startup about to take on an investor. In each case, the sole trader setup that once felt simple starts working against them, and the personal risk sits squarely on the owner.

Our new article walks through when staying a sole trader stops being smart, what a company or trust actually changes for your liability and tax, and how to move across without triggering a tax problem you did not see coming.

Have a read, and if you want an honest opinion on your own situation, we are happy to talk it through. No pressure.

The contract said 'independent contractor.' The ATO said 'employee.'Same hours, same desk, same manager, for three years. The label in the agreement did not save them. They paid back tax, super, and penalties. If someone works regularly for your business under a contractor arrangement, it is worth checking whether it actually holds up.Not sure where your arrangements sit? Finished EOFY and the bank balance looks alright, but the cash still feels tight? You are not imagining it. Once GST, PAYG, super and last year's tax bill are accounted for, that July balance is smaller than it looks, and the quiet winter months make it tighter still.

Our latest blog walks Melbourne tradies and retailers through a simple cash flow reset you can do in about twenty minutes, plus the key dates coming up, including the first quarter BAS and the new Payday Super rules starting 1 July 2026.

Have a read and get your new financial year off to a steady start.

One bank account for everything. Business income, the grocery shop, school fees, the ATO payment, weekend petrol.
Then tax time arrives and someone has to work out what was what. It takes longer than it should, and it costs more than it needs to.

The fix is simple, and it is easiest to set up right at the start.

If you are not sure how to separate things properly, we are happy to walk you through it.

July is quietly one of the trickiest months of the year for small business owners. The new financial year has barely started, and suddenly there is a stack of deadlines all landing at once.

The catch is that the July BAS due dates are not a single date. There is your quarter four BAS on 28 July, your June quarter super also on 28 July, and STP finalisation for your employees due even earlier on 14 July. Miss one and it can cost you in penalties or interest.

We have pulled all of it into one plain guide, including what changes now that Payday Super has started on 1 July 2026.

Have a read and get your July sorted before the reminders pile up:
