We know. Nobody wants to talk about Christmas in September.

But financially? This is actually a pretty good time to think about it.

Christmas gifts.
Travel.
Entertaining.
School holidays.
Summer plans.

December can become an expensive month very quickly.

Rather than putting it all on the December credit card, imagine putting aside a manageable amount each week between now and then.

It’s a simple example of something we see repeatedly in financial planning:

The earlier you plan, the less pressure there tends to be later.

Are you a Christmas saver — or a December panic buyer? 😄

📅 Remember those things you were going to do this financial year?

Two months have already passed.

So, how are you going?

A. Already on track
B. Made a start
C. Still thinking about it
D. What financial goals? 😬

The good news is that there are still more than ten months ahead.

If 2026–27 was going to be the year you became more organised with your finances, invested more intentionally or finally developed a proper strategy, there’s plenty of time to make it happen.

But perhaps don’t wait until next June.

🤔 Here’s an interesting question… how honest are you about money?

Would you tell your financial adviser that:

You spend far more on holidays than you probably should?

You have absolutely no intention of giving up eating out?

You want to help your children financially, even if it isn’t the most financially efficient choice?

You’d happily retire with a little less money if it meant retiring earlier?

Good financial advice shouldn’t be built around a fictional version of you who never spends unnecessarily and makes every decision based on a spreadsheet.

It should work for your real life.

And that requires an honest conversation.

🌱 Spring is almost here — and perhaps your finances deserve a spring clean too.

We clean out cupboards, tackle the garden and finally get to those jobs we’ve ignored all winter.

But what about the financial clutter?

Old super accounts.
Investments you haven’t reviewed in years.
Insurance you’re unsure about.
Subscriptions you’ve forgotten.
Beneficiaries that may no longer reflect your wishes.
Financial goals that belong to a different stage of life.

You don’t necessarily need to change everything.

Sometimes you simply need to know why you still have it.

What would be first on your financial spring-clean list?

💰 Tax refunds are landing in bank accounts across Australia — so here’s a question: do you treat yours as a bonus?

It can be tempting to see a refund as unexpected spending money.

But depending on your circumstances, it could also be an opportunity to:

🏠 Reduce the mortgage
💳 Clear higher-interest debt
📈 Add to investments
💰 Build your cash reserves
✈️ Or put some aside for something you’ll genuinely enjoy

There’s nothing wrong with spending some of it either.

If your tax refund arrived tomorrow, what would you do with it?

Here’s one that might divide opinion.

If you had the financial ability to choose between:

A. Earning more but working longer hours

or

B. Earning less but having an extra day off every week

…which would you choose?

For many people, financial planning eventually becomes less about accumulating as much as possible and more about creating choices.

The choice to work less.
Travel more.
Spend time with family.
Change careers.
Retire earlier.

Because sometimes wealth isn’t measured by how much money you have.

It’s measured by how much control you have over your time.

A or B?

We all have one.

That financial job that keeps moving further down the list.

Maybe it’s:

👉 Updating your will
👉 Checking your beneficiaries
👉 Reviewing old insurance policies
👉 Consolidating super
👉 Looking properly at your investments
👉 Making an actual retirement plan
👉 Finally sitting down with a financial adviser

So let’s make this a judgement-free zone.

What financial task have you been saying “I really need to do that” about?

🏡 Would you help your adult children buy their first home if you could?

It’s a conversation more families are having.

Parents may want to help with a deposit, provide a loan, act as guarantor or give an early inheritance.

But there’s another question that sometimes gets overlooked:

How much can you afford to give without compromising your own future?

Helping family can be incredibly rewarding — but your retirement security needs to remain part of the conversation too.

We’d be interested to know: Would you rather help your children financially now, or leave them a larger inheritance later?

Here’s an interesting retirement question…

Would you rather retire at 60 with a little less to spend — or work until 67 and have significantly more?

For some people, time is the ultimate luxury.

For others, having greater financial security and more freedom to travel or spend in retirement matters most.

And plenty of people would choose something in between — perhaps reducing their working hours rather than stopping altogether.

Retirement planning isn’t only about reaching a particular dollar figure.

It’s about deciding what you want retirement to look like.

Which would you choose?

If You Had an Extra $1,000 a Month…

💭 If you suddenly had an extra $1,000 every month, what would you do with it?

Would you:

🏡 Pay extra off the mortgage?
📈 Invest it?
💰 Add it to super?
✈️ Put it towards travel?
👨‍👩‍👧 Help your children or grandchildren?
🍷 Or simply enjoy life a little more?

There isn’t necessarily one “right” answer. The best choice depends on your priorities, stage of life and financial position.

So, no overthinking it…

What would you do with the extra $1,000?
