The proportion of payments across the NDIS’s three management types has changed, according to the NDIS’s latest Quarterly Report.

Between the December 2023 quarter and the December 2024 quarter, the changes were:

* Plan-managed increased from 56% to 60%
* NDIA-managed decreased from 32% to 30%
* Self-managed (either all or part of a participant’s plan) decreased from 13% to 11%

These changes in NDIS plan management preferences are important for providers. For example, the increase in plan-managed participants suggests a growing reliance on plan managers. This could potentially create opportunities for you to offer services through this channel.

On the other hand, the decline in NDIA-managed and self-managed plans may indicate a preference for more flexibility and support in managing NDIS funds. This could lead participants to opt for an external manager to help them get the most out of the Scheme.

The National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) has launched two 12-month pilot projects as part of its Quality Supports Program.

The pilots are aimed at gathering insight into the characteristics of quality service, and the costs and outcomes associated with providing quality NDIS services.

Grant rounds for the pilots opened last week. One is the Support Coordination (SC) Pilot and the other is the Supported Independent Living (SIL) Pilot.

Registered NDIS providers who demonstrate high-quality service within these two verticals are invited to apply. A financial incentive is available to providers selected to participate.

The NDIA will use the outcomes of these pilots to develop a set of benchmarks for quality service and pricing for NDIS supports.

“We want to ensure we have the right supports that demonstrate high quality and the best use of taxpayer money,” said Amanda Rishworth, Minister for the National Disability Insurance Scheme. “The highest quality supports for participants will, in turn, lead to better outcomes. We don’t want quality to be a lottery”.
