This catches a lot of people off guard.
In Australia, if you're doing business under any name other than your own full legal name β you're required to register it as a business name.
So if your name is Jane Smith and you operate as "Jane Smith" β you're fine.
But if you operate as "JS Creative Studio," "Jane's Designs," or anything else β that name needs to be registered, no matter how small the business.
It's not just a formality. An unregistered business name can cause problems with invoicing, opening a business bank account, and how you're perceived by clients.
