🧾 BCFR TAX TIP

A $1,000 tax deduction doesn't mean you get $1,000 back.

It's one of the most common misconceptions we hear at tax time.

A tax deduction generally reduces your taxable income but it isn't a dollar for dollar refund.

For example, if you're entitled to a $1,000 deduction and your relevant marginal tax rate is 30%, the tax saving from that deduction is approximately $300, not $1,000.*

So spending $1,000 purely to "get a tax deduction" generally doesn't make you $1,000 better off.

The deduction reduces the cost. It doesn't make the purchase free.

Always consider whether the expense actually makes sense for you or your business first.

MYTH: "If I work from home, I can claim everything."

FACT: Working from home doesn't automatically make every household expense tax deductible.
Your claim depends on factors such as:

✔️ Whether you incurred the expense yourself
✔️ Whether you have the appropriate records to support your claim
