Westcourt Private Business Accountants

Westcourt Private Business Accountants Westcourt helps families, and the businesses that they own, become great. We do this by letting you Westcourt has one focus.

We make family owned businesses great. We were born from a family business through a sub-lease in Dad's office. And over the next 19 years we have grown and developed a deep understanding of the family, business, financial and tax issues that face family owned businesses. Our targeted focus on a select group of clients means that we have developed a deep understanding of how families in business

work, think and act. We do not offer an ever increasing range of services to an even larger number of clients and dilute our focus. So that means we give great advice and change the lives of the families we help and the businesses they own. So if you want somebody to assist you who has started a business, who is independent and who understands the business and tax issues facing families in business: talk to us.

Are capital gains always taxable?
Not necessarily.

While Capital Gains Tax (CGT) applies in many situations, there are a number of exemptions and concessions that may reduce or eliminate the tax you pay.

Some common examples include:
• Your main residence (subject to eligibility)
• Certain personal use assets
• Eligible small business CGT concessions
• Assets held within a complying superannuation fund

It's important to remember that each exemption comes with its own rules and conditions. The right outcome depends on your individual circumstances.

Before making decisions about selling property, business assets or investments, seek professional advice to ensure you're making the most of the concessions available.

Get in touch with the Westcourt team to discuss your CGT obligations and opportunities.

Most private business owners leave succession planning until they're ready to retire.

By then, the 15-year CGT exemption may have already closed. The trust deed may not say what they think it says. The window to restructure cheaply has passed.
The best succession outcomes we see aren't from owners who planned perfectly, they're from owners who started early enough to have options.

If you're a private business owner thinking about what happens next, we'd rather have that conversation today than after the decision is already made.
