Righto, Tipsters.... it's that time again....

We're 13 sleeps until the Opening Round (which is stupid, if you ask me) to get yourself ready and confirmed for the 2026 AFL season.

We expect to have 50+ tippers this year again, so we're expanding the prizes to 4th and 5th.... and here's a quick run down of what our tipping comp has on offer....

1st: $300 (gift card)
2nd: $200 (gift card)
3rd: $100 (gift card)
4th: $50 (gift card)
5th: $50 (gift card)

On the odd occasion at our choosing, thoughout the season we will offer up a $50 (gift card) for the #1 Tipster of any round chosen by us (TBA, so keep an eye out as it can be decided on late notice).

The Rules.....

1. Cost of Entry: Nothing.... but you MUST be client, employee or an associate of RBS (failing to satisfy your relationship with RBS, will exclude from any prizes)

2. Season: to include both home and away fixtures AND the finals.

3. Forget to Tip: away teams only.

4. Joker Rounds: like last year, there are 2 Jokers to play and YOU get to choose when you want to play yours.... play smart!

5. All Tips Correct: 1 bonus point.

6. Ladder Position: ranked by points and margin.

7. Non-Tippers: Three (3) or more non-tipping rounds in a row will signal your lack of interest and potential removal from the comp.... we want to keep this comp alive and prizes reserved for the active punters.

So, if you are a client or associate of RBS, make sure you get yourself amongst it.

Well punters, (we're a little late to get this out there) we have our winners of our 2025 ESPN Footy Tipping competition.

It went down to the wire where the bonus points counted for everything during the finals with Bec Slegers taking home the chocolates.... she played the Joker late in the season which turned out to be a master stroke and kept tipping well all finals!

Special mention to a fan favourite here at RBS, Jeddy Warrior who started strong, faltered for a few weeks towards the back end of the season, but still nearly got there in the end falling just a little too short on the margin.

Commiserations to Schyvo who was top of the table heading into Grand Final weekend who only had to tip the winner to take it out, but backed the Cats instead.... unlucky!

...we'll be looking to get you your winnings tomorrow ready for the long weekend, so stay tuned.

Only 2 more sleeps to go!!!.... (well there was up until more recently).

It's that time of year again where punters and pundits alike start considering their AFL footy tipping options and RBS Accountants will again be offering up some great incentives to be involved again this year.

As we wind up for the year, RBS Accountants would like to take this opportunity to thank all our clients and associates for your continued support throughout 2024.

We think the team have earned themselves a well earned break and our office will officially close at the end of business today being the 19th December 2024 and look to open again on Tuesday the 7th January 2025.

The partners will periodically be checking emails and attending to some minor tasks during this period, but will attend to all other matters when they return.... however should you have a matter of particular urgency or significant importance, please feel free to reach out via email and we will do what we can to assist as soon as practically possible.

Some good news for those with (or previously had) a HELP debt, the ATO have now released some guidance....

The bill to change the annual indexation for study and training loans passed parliament.

Once the change is law, indexation will be based on either the Consumer Price Index (CPI) or Wage Price Index (WPI) – whichever is lower.

This change is backdated, taking effect from 1 June 2023.

The new indexation rates for the two previous years are:
> 3.2% for 1 June 2023 - reduced from 7.1%
> 4% for 1 June 2024 - reduced from 4.7%.

We’re currently recrediting excess indexation amounts.

Most people will see these credits on their (ATO HELP) accounts by the end of January 2025.

If the study or training loan account is in credit after the adjustment, this credit will be transferred to the clients Income Tax account..... It will then be applied against other primary tax or Commonwealth debts (if applicable), and any remaining amount refunded to your client’s nominated bank account.
