When I first started my business, I thought I was helping people by preparing tax returns and lodging BASs.

But over the years, I realised something.

So many business owners would come to me stressed, overwhelmed, and working incredibly hard... yet they still weren't getting ahead. They didn't need another tax return. They needed someone to help them understand their business before it reached tax time.

I've been there myself. I know what it's like to carry the weight of running a business, wondering if you're making the right decisions, trying to juggle cash flow, staff, family, and everything else that comes with being your own boss.

That's why I've made the decision to move away from focusing on tax compliance and towards business advisory.

My passion has always been helping people—not just with their taxes, but with building businesses that are profitable, sustainable, and support the life they dreamed of when they first started.

I want to help business owners understand their numbers, create a clear plan, improve their cash flow, put the right systems in place, and most importantly, give them the confidence to make better business decisions.

Because running a small business is about so much more than working long hours.

It's about building something you're proud of.

If I can help even one business owner avoid the struggles I've seen so many go through, then I know I'm doing exactly what I was meant to do.

This time 11 years ago I made the leap and started Ashawed Accounting. Ten years seemed like a long time and I always said I will give it 10 years.

It was a very challenging 11 years with covid thrown in the mix and I have made it out the other end.

What have I learned?

1. Never ever under value your self. The biggest mistake I made was not charging enough. Whatever price you have in mind, double it. Your knowledge or skill is worth it

2. You don't have to accept every client. Work out who your ideal client is and screen every potential to see if they meet the criteria. You won't always get it right but you will have customers or clients that you are happy to work with.

3. Refer to your business plan often and make changes as necessary.

4. Don't be scared of technology. I love technology and it is forever evolving which is great news for business owners.

If you build a solid foundation, then you can build your business as high as you want.

My next step in this business is helping your business build the foundations.
