I came across this photo today and it made me smile.

Little Evelyne had claimed my office chair, convinced she was helping Mum work. 💛

What you don't see in this picture is the chaos happening everywhere else.

The toys scattered across the floor.

The cold cup of coffee I'd reheated three times.

The emails I'd started but never finished.

The deadlines I was trying to meet while answering a hundred tiny questions and wiping sticky fingers.

Some days I wondered if I was doing anything well.

Running a business while raising little kids wasn't glamorous.

It was late nights after bedtime.

Trying to squeeze in work during nap time (if naps even happened!).

Taking client calls while silently praying no one would burst into the room yelling, "Muuuum!"

I didn't have it all together.

I was exhausted.

Overwhelmed.

Doing my best with what I had.

Looking back now, I realise those messy years taught me something I'll never forget...

You don't have to wait until life is "less chaotic" to build something meaningful.

Progress doesn't always look polished. Sometimes it looks like a toddler sitting at your desk, invoices waiting to be finished, and a mum simply refusing to give up.

Maybe that's why I'm so passionate about helping overwhelmed business owners now..Because I know what it's like to feel like you're spinning a hundred plates and wondering how you'll keep them all from crashing down.

So if your business feels messy...

There's something a little surreal about seeing this in writing. 💙

Being recognized as a Central Coast Business Awards Finalist is an honour I'm incredibly proud of. Local Business Awards

When I started BKH Bookkeeping, it was a little side business while raising my four beautiful children. I never imagined it would grow into what it is today—a business built on trust, genuine care, and supporting other small business owners through the parts of business that often feel overwhelming.

Over the years, it's become so much more than bookkeeping. It's about building relationships, helping people feel confident with their numbers, and letting every client know there's never any judgement—just support. Seeing my clients succeed and knowing I've played a small part in their journey is what I love most.

🥹 I honestly don't know where to start... except with thank you.

I found out that BKH Bookkeeping has been named a finalist in the Local Business Awards 🎉

If I'm being completely honest, I never expected this. I only shared it once in an email and once on social media because I always feel like I'm the little fish swimming alongside so many incredible local businesses.

To everyone who took a moment to vote for me, thank you from the bottom of my heart 💛 Your support means more than you'll ever know.

When I started this business, it was simply a way to be home with my kids while doing something I genuinely love. I never imagined it would grow into a business that Supports so many like minded business owners, tradies and many mums that support their own business or their partners.

This recognition isn't just mine. It belongs to every client who has trusted me with their business, every person who has shared my posts, recommended me to a friend, or simply cheered me on along the way.

No matter what happens next, being named a finalist already feels like such a huge win. I couldn't have done it without this incredible community.

There was a time when I thought I had to look and sound "corporate" to be taken seriously. I spoke about this earlier this week at the REACH Biz Community , where Mandy shifted my bubble on my socials.

Coming from a corporate background, I assumed that's what people expected from a bookkeeper. Perfectly polished. Always professional. Never a hair out of place.

But the truth?

That version of me wasn't the real me.

So I made a decision to show up exactly as I am.

Some days that means I'm in activewear. Some days it's the trusty mum bun. Sometimes you'll hear my kids in the background having a full-blown disagreement with life... and honestly, that's just real life 😂

Because when I get an idea that could help another small business owner, I don't want to wait until everything is "perfect" to share it 🤍

My purpose has never been about looking perfect.

It's about helping.

Helping business owners understand their bookkeeping without feeling overwhelmed.

Helping mums who are trying to juggle running a business while wearing a hundred other hats.

Helping people realise that if you've fallen behind, made mistakes, or have no idea where to start...

Everything's fixable.

You don't need to panic.
You don't need to feel embarrassed.
And you definitely don't need to have it all figured out before asking for help.

The best decision I ever made in business wasn't changing software or services.

It was deciding to show up as me.

And funnily enough... that's when the right people started finding me. 💛

🚨 Think STP Finalisation is just a matter of clicking a button? Not quite.

Before you finalise your payroll for the financial year, there are a few important checks that should happen behind the scenes to make sure everything is accurate 👀

It's not just about lodging information with the ATO. Your employee records should be up to date, your business details need to be correct, and your payroll figures should reconcile with your accounts. If something doesn't add up, it's much easier to investigate and fix it before you finalise everything.

Think of it like doing a final walk through before handing over the keys to a new home 🏡 You want to make sure every room has been checked, every light works, and nothing has been missed.

The good news is Xero and MYOB both provide helpful end of year checklists to guide you through the process. They're a great starting point and can help make EOFY feel much less overwhelming ✅

If payroll isn't your favourite thing, don't stress. This is exactly why bookkeepers spend the time checking everything behind the scenes. And fun fact... I genuinely love this part of the job! 💛

It's never really about the bookkeeping.

When people first reach out to me, they're usually not saying:

"I need someone to reconcile my accounts."

They're saying things like:

💭 "I'm so behind."

💭 "I'm scared to look at it."

💭 "I don't even know where to start."

💭 "I've been avoiding it for months."

And honestly?

That's completely normal.

But something shifts when there's a plan.

The panic starts to settle.

The mental load gets lighter.

You stop lying awake wondering if you've forgotten something important.

And instead of feeling embarrassed every time someone mentions compliance or the ATO, you start feeling in control again.

That's what I love most about what I do.

Not the spreadsheets.

Not the reports.

The relief.

The moment someone realises they don't have to carry it all on their own anymore.

If your books have been sitting in the "I'll deal with that later" basket, consider this your reminder:

No judgement.

All withholding schedules and tax tables have been updated. The changes apply from 1 July 2026.

If you employ staff, take note of the changes. Make sure you know how much you need to withhold from the payments you make to your employees and other workers.

Sometimes you become so close to what you do that you can’t see what’s possible anymore!

I was chatting with one of my inspiring members Bree founder of .bookkeeping recently. Reflecting on her 17 year business journey. What stood out to me was not just the growth she’s experienced, but the shift in how she sees herself and what’s possible for her business 🙏

So many business owners spend years working hard, doing all the things, serving clients, and keeping everything moving. Yet deep down they know they’re capable of more. They know there’s another level available to them, but they can’t quite see the path forward.

Sometimes what we need isn’t more information.

Sometimes we need clarity on looking at you and your business holistically and the bigger picture.

We need humans to help us see our blind spots, challenge our thinking, and remind us of the strengths we’ve been overlooking. We need to reconnect with our voice, our vision, and the impact we’re here to create. ✨
