July can feel like an avalanche for business owners
- BAS
- Payroll
- Super
- “have you lodged yet?”
- a to do list that seems to grow overnight
Here is the good news…
For most small and medium businesses using a tax agent, the income tax return is not the main July priority.
The real July jobs are:
- Making sure payroll year end and STP are finalised correctly
- Checking super for the June quarter is accurate and paid on time
- Reconciling your accounts so BAS, wages and super all line up
- Confirming you are using the right rates and settings for the new financial year
Once those areas are under control, you can take the time to complete your year end work properly and lodge a return that is accurate, supportable and less likely to trigger follow up questions later.
